I wanted to laminate a card just in case my DD4 gets lost in WDW:scared: :scared: . My idea is to put her name, mine & DH's name and our cell phone numbers. Do I need to add or take away anything??? Thanks in advance for the tips!!!:sunny:

I read this in Parents Magazine, so I won't take the credit. One family made a necklace from the little craft letter and number beads. It said " Call 555-5555" the parents cell phone number. DD liked having a special Disney necklace. I thought of this because I'm not sure a scared 4 yo would remember she had a card.

I went to petsmart and had that information engraved on a dog tag which we have looped through our DD3 & DS4 shoes incase they get lost. My DD picked out a red heart and of course my DS had to pick out the blue DOGBONE!!! But, it is easy to read and also easy to spot by an adult (but too small too read by passing strangers.) I like the idea that it is put on and not removed day by day. That way if an outfit needs to be changed we don't have to worry about transferring the id tags - or forgetting to. Both of my kids know their information but I wanted to make sure that if they panic an adult can figure out who they are w/o a crying hysterical child. Its also a good idea to tell your child that if you get separated to go to someone with authority - show them what a cast member looks like or the id name tags that only cast members wear.

I just finished making EVERYONE in our group of 12 cards. I still have to get them lamainated...but there printed and ready to go. I made them CC sized and got everyone a lanyard with id holder...on one side of the card it has the castle and the dates were going...but on the back it lists ALL of our (adults) cell numbers....along with ADR times and confirmation numbers. I figure for the kids if they become lost they'll have a list of our numbers (6 adults)...and all of the adults will have the dinning times listed...and know when/where to meet up for meals. :teeth:

At first I was only planning on making a number card for the kids....but then figured it would be nice if all the adults had each others numbers handy as well....then just added the ADR times/# as a last min thought...figured if someone arrived before we did (since we have the ADR#'s) they could give the CM the info and get seated.

I'm planning on doing something similar with my 2 kids when we go in January. I wanted to add our hotel and room # somewhere also, so I'm not sure what I will be doing yet. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them. :teeth:

Dawn :flower:

These are all great ideas!! I am trying to deside want to do I have a 5yo and a 2yo (almost 3) and I am not sure yet. I like the idea of the "pet tags" but my kids will be wearing sandals as well. I know they would not keep necklaces or bracelet on so I think that is out of the question. I also heard the idea of tags inside of there shoes but I do not think that my 2yo would tell someone about it in his shoe. Any ideas??? :confused3

I'm an Army brat, grew up in Europe and we were required to wear our dogtags at all times. I had some made up for DDs from www.gotags.com with their name, DH and my names and our cell numbers. I used a label maker and made a sticker for the back with our resort and resort phone#. They wore these under their clothes (no catching on anything, no one seeing their names) and were instructed to show them to a CM if they got lost. One DD got blue, one purple and they *loved* having special WDW necklaces to wear. Everyone felt much better.

I've heard it's dangerous to put your names on it.... or the child's... in case a stranger uses it to "lure" them... They think that the stranger really knows you because they are calling the child by name and have your names!!

Cell number only is the safest... :grouphug:

Thanks for the www.gotags.com recommendation! I used a pet tag from a machine @ PetSmart to make a tag last time, but I didn't like the tag and how limited it was in how much text you could put on it.

I just ordered DS's dog tags from gotags.com & loved what they had to offer. I got each boy a set of 2 tags (never hurts to have a spare!) and love that even the chains are included.

I put

Kids name
My name
My cell
DH's name
DH's cell

OK, I ordered dog tags for my 5yo & 2yo. I figured with colored tags they might like to wear them a little more. Besides their Daddy just retired for the Army so he has worn his all of their lives. I really hope it works! Does anyone know how long it takes to receive them??

We used the pet tag thing on DS's shoes. We only have our last name and 2 cell #'s that we carry.

You don't need hotels and room numbers. They're not going to return the child to your hotel. If you get seperated it's amazing. We've seen it several times where a lost child approached a CM. Each time we've seen it several CM's stay together w/ the child and manual comes out and the phones are activated. One Cm is doing the phone work while the others seems to guard and entertain the child. They were always reunited w/i minutes via their walkies.

How long did they take to arrive? Would 2 weeks be enough time??

I just ordered them yesterday, so I haven't gotten them yet. I'll post when they arrive.

I always use a "Hello My name is.." sticker and I put it on my boys backs. They can't get it off and EVERYONE sees it so if they did get lost, someone would see that and my little ones wouldn't have to remember to show someone a card. On it I put their name(first and last), age, our names, cell phone number(don't forget an area code) and the hotel and room number of where we are staying. This year for my older boys I used the Disney Travel Company luggage tags(we're driving and don't need them) and I put all the info on that for my older boys. They can wear it on their belt loop and so it will still be visable. They think it's really cool. Plus then everyday I don't have to fill out 4 stickers. :teeth: For my little ones I'll still use stickers.

A few more comments...you should NEVER, EVER put a child's name or your name on their clothing where it can be seen by just anybody. Child safety experts advise this and so do I. It would be incredibly easy for someone to call your child by name, then "I know your Mommy (Daddy)" and give your names leading the child to believe that he/she is a family friend, so it's OK to go with them.

You should also NEVER use your room number as a thief can see it, see that you aren't IN it and go ransack it. Guest Services can provide a CM with your room number if needed.

About the resort...I've actually heard stories of parents returning to the resort having forgotten a child in the parks, so it is a good idea to put your resort and the resort phone on the ID tag, just as an extra measure of caution. As much as we'd like to think it doesn't happen, it does. I know of a family who left a child at a gas station and got 3 hours away before they realized it. :confused3

I ordered a tag through these folks. Tags were a few dollars and free shipping. They arrived a few days ago. I ordered the Emergency ID ones since I thought they would be easier to spot. They go on shoes, even sandels. My DD isn't used to wearing a necklace but I will definitely check out the dog tags for future trips!

I've been using these tags for over a year now and have been pleased. They're on each of my children's shoes and sandals. The tags are easy to spot, inexpensive and don't come off easily. You can also put quite a bit of information on the small disc by using an extra fine sharpie. I also like the idea that our children's personal information is not visible unless one makes an effort to open the tab to the tag. I usually have both DH and my cell numbers, our home number and for my DD, the allergies she has.

I've been wondering how I can have ID info on my will-be 13 month old. The shoes she mainly wears are Robeez: pull-ons with no place to put any of the standard shoe-id tags. I'm really uncomfortable with the choking hazard of putting a necklace on her.

Anyone ever been in this situation?

Thanks! :)

I loved having my kids wear Robeez when they were younger and yeah, you're right, a shoe tag wouldn't work on them. Would she be okay if she wore something around her ankle? Or maybe a sticker with pertinent information written on it placed somewhere on her outfit, like on her back, or the inside of her shirt so she wouldn't be able to get to it?
