I knew I should have purchased the Disney three pc princess set....now DD doesn't offer it!

What does everyone use for their children's luggage?

I use regular luggage. I personally wouldn't use special luggage on a plane or ship since it is all just thrown around & would probably be pretty messed up on the outside by the end of the trip.

Pack light. Kids won't need their own suitcases. We got everything we needed included suits for DS and I, and formal dresses for DD and DW and all our clothing for a 7 day in 2 large hardsided suitcases, and 4 carryons.

Our family uses the concept of - spread it around! We lay out 3 suitcases (varies depending on length of trip) and each of us puts clothes in each. I do a lot of traveling with business and the likelihood of lost luggage is too high for us to risk one person losing everything. This way, if one bag gets lost, no one person is out too much. If your DD's luggage was lost, that may be pretty hard on your cruise. I'd use regular luggage..but I also have boys...they don't have those pretty luggages for boys!! ha ha

DS5 has a little wheeled Pooh suitcase from Target ($10). It is small enough to be a carryon. He puts his swimsuit, change of clothes, underwear and socks and his toys in it. Makes him feel very special. I have to get one for DD for this trip as well.

I got my ds the 3 piece Stitch set. It really isn't very big -- He's going to have the backpack as his carryon - it is smaller than his school back pack, and I think the perfect size, and the waist pack in the parks. I may or may not use the duffel. I think it's more practical to save that for trips to Grandpa's and pack his things in our luggage. All his outfits are going in ziplock bags, anyway, so it will be easy to find his clothes. The duffel doesn't seem that sturdy to me. So, don't despair about the princess set. You would have probably decided to use real luggage, anyway.

When we flew to Hawaii my DS was only 3 1/2. He had a little pullman type suitcase, matching backpack and fanny pack. Bright primary colors. He thought he was sooo special. The little suitcase came on as a carryon. I think grandma found it in a catalog. He used those for many years and handed it down to his baby brother. For Christmas in 2002 same grandma found these great Disney duffle bags that had the "100 years of magic" logos on them at some outlet store. All the grandkids got them. Those puppies are huge! I can pack my boys for a long week in them. They will use those on our next trip too.

As we are driving and not flying, lost luggage is not an issue for us (unless DH leaves one at the curb :) ). I don't think we would spend $$$ on children's luggage. The large duffles work well. We will be taking our garment bag, so any dress clothes will go in that so we won't have to worry about wrinkles.

My kids have their own luggage. This way when we get off the planes , they can help by pulling one piece.(they have wheels) Each has his or her own color. They are blue, pink and orange. They are regular luggage, so it can be used by kids or adults.

I saw a set on Lillian Vernon....for $48 that included a wheeled bag, a garment case and a train case. I am wondering how sturdy they are.

I would like to get DD a wheeled bag she can use and a garment bag for their dresses and costumes. I tend to hang most all DH and my clothes so there is no room for extras....

We found it very easy to pack the kids' clothes in gallon-size zip-lock bags. Each outfit was placed into a separate bag (and labeled). We were able to remove the excess air and the kids found it very easy to grab clothes each day.

Funny thing is, we almost left one bag at San Pedro when we cruised! All of our luggage was together when we picked it up (so we thought). We were packing up the van in the parking lot, and realized we were one bag short! No wonder everything was fitting into the van so well! DH has since learned when cruising to make sure to fill in that part of the DCL luggage tag that reads "____ of _____ bags." At least he was able to get back inside the building and retrieve our missing bag.

If your DD's luggage was lost, that may be pretty hard on your cruise.

Speaking from experience, listen to BuzzBoyMom. I had my ds's personalized Buzz duffel with each individual outfit neatly packed in its own ziploc, all set and ready to go. I had wanted to pack half my ds's clothes in my dd's suitcase and vice versa, but oh the uproar caused at the thought of putting Buzz clothes in a princess suitcase and Princess clothes in a Buzz suitcase. My kids would not hear of such practicality. Well guess what we made it to Orlando and the Buzz duffel did not. Yikes! We found quickly that while Disney has an excellent selection of infant and boy clothing they offer next to nothing for toddler boys, shirts yes, but shorts, underwear, swimsuits... nope (and yes we checked World of Disney, and every resort gift shop, etc etc we had concierge and shop managers all helping us). Luckily we had 10 days there till our cruise and I was able to order some stuff priority shipping from Oldnavy.com. So he was still able to make dress code for dinner and have enough stuff to enjoy the cruise. But my sons entire wardrobe is still gone, I am still fighting the airline for reimbursment, and I would definitely recommend you try and avoid that nightmare.

From about age 12 on my kids have been responsible for carrying ALL the luggage. Mom and dad carry the important stuff like the tickets and the cash. You'd be surprised how well it works :cool1:

we are driving up so unless DCL loses the luggage that shouldn't be a problem.

hmm...now I wonder if they have lost anyone's?
