Children running wild unsupervised in Target

So last night I went to a few stores as I am looking for a booster seat for DD. I left after dinner and left DD with daddy. I didn't have much luck and by 9:30 I was at my last stop; Target.

So I go straight towards the baby section and I am looking at the different boosters when all of the sudden I hear a big BOOOOOM! I turn around, I have my back towards another display shelf that has carriages, exersaucers, swings, etc all on the top and then on the bottom the boxes to the items as well as safety gates and bars to different cribs. There are 2 little kids running through the bottom shelf with these boxes and gates! They were knocking boxes off and gates were falling down left and right. I am standing there, saying to myself should I keep quiet and mind my business, or tell these kids to get out as they are surely going to get hurt? Luckily, a Target associate heard all this noise and came running over. First he turned to me and said "Are these your kids?" I said NO! He was VERY nice and asked the kids to please get out from there as they were going to get hurt. I hear the two little voices say they were fine and that mommy told the older one to look after the younger one and they were looking for a ball that they threw. Finally, these 2 kids come out and one could not be any older than 8 and the other could have only been 4 or 5...the mother was no where to be found! And on top of this these kids were running wild around Target barefoot!:scared1: Seriously, anyone could have taken those kids! OR they could have walked out the door. Or slipped....the list goes on and on actually.
I go back to looking at boosters when about a minute later I hear them under the shelf again!!! Another lady who was a shopper asked them sweetly to come out b/c they had already been spoken to and were going to get hurt. Again, gates are crashing, then the Target associate comes back and he has another female associate with him. They both ask the 2 to come out, they are not coming out. Finally the female asks "Where is your mother or father?" The kids have no idea. The female associate tells them they have to come out and they were going to look for their parents. As this is all going down I start walking towards bedding, I mumble to myself what parent allows their young children to do this? They were so young; babies!!! I don't think my mom allowed me to walk around a store w/o her til I was 12 or 13 and even at that I had my brother who was older with me or a friend . As I am walking towards bedding the associate and the kids come from another aisle and I hear the kids saying "There she is" the mother was looking at shoes :sad2:. The associate kindly explained the situation, saying she just did not want the kids to get hurt. The mother did not even look at the associate she just told the kids to come look at the shoes with her and to stop being sassy. That was it.
I was just annoyed with this parent so much! If something would have happened to these kids, like a gate falling on them, she would have sued Target probably.
I know kids are mischievous, I understand, I have a 5 year old and I just finished up working with kindergarten and 1st graders. But I would NEVER allow my 5 year old out of my sight for one second at a store! And if she acted that way then I am sorry, but I'd have to leave the store.
Just had to gripe about it, as it ruined my shopping experience last night and I knew you DISers would understand.

Well, no wonder the mom was looking at shoes! I hope she was buying some for those bare footed kids, too!!!:lmao:

Seriously tho, it is amazing what some parents do, isn't it. Hopefully there is a higher power watching out for these kids. Because we all know the parents aren't. :sad2:

Sadly, she was in the women's section. :rotfl:

It was kind of cold last night to be barefoot in New Jersey! Good thing she was looking at shoes.:sad2:

When I read stories like this I wonder why God gives children to some people and not to others?

Yes, and rainy! And it was 9:30, I wonder if the kiddos were bright eyed and bushy tailed for school the next day?
I mean, yes I am guilty of taking DD out late at night, but she's not in school yet (missed the cut off for K) and when she is in school she won't be out til 10 on a school night. This could have been a once in a blue moon thing that these kids were out so late, but going by how they were acting and the mom's lax behavior, I doubt it.
I'm not one to judge people, and maybe I'll get flamed, but I just couldn't help but shake my head at this one.

While I would never leave an 8 and 5 year old unattended in a store (especially if they can't behave), I don't think they're babies. And dd13 has been walking and shopping at our local shoprite for a couple of years, and she and her gf's are all over the place without adult supervision (pretty much shopping and eating). Dd9 and dd7 have walked to school alone (when ds7 has been home sick - he's not mature enough to walk without an adult).

Obviously these kids needed supervision whether they were old enough to be alone or not. (I don't think they are.) People just continue to amaze me.

There are bad kids and worse parents everywhere. Even at places like Disney. :sad2:

Really? I never knew that!

It was a joke based on several past posts about Wal-mart and their patrons.

I posted a thread around Christmas about a screaming kid in Target. Someone also mentioned Wal-mart on that thread. It, as on this thread, was a joke.

I've been saying for a while now that the most peaceful and quiet place to be when there are unruly kids around, is by their parents. :lmao:

I proved this to DH one day at a volleyball game for my daughter. These kids were jumping on our bleacher seat, kicking and making all sorts of racket and disturbance. I told DH we needed to go sit BY the parents, and lo and behold when we did, the kids stayed well away.

You sure you weren't at Wal-mart? ;):lmao:

We all know that this behavior is rampant and acceptable in Walmart so I'm sure the OP is more than a little shocked that it was happening in a Target :lmao:

Just kidding OP ;) I think you are definitely justified in being your feelings about the kids being unsupervised but I think to make statements about them being out at 9:30 is a little much considering you don't know the situation. Maybe they were there because something happened to their shoes and they needed some for the next school day, or maybe they were off from school, maybe it was one of their parents 40th birthday and they went out to dinner very late on a school night to celebrate. Oh wait that was me last night, I meant to say that on the bad parent thread
Seriously though, its a shame that the mom wasn't watching her kids but luckily an employee was there to make sure they didn't get hurt. Some people won't ever learn until the time comes when there is no employee there and something awful happens.

So very VERY true. Sad, but true.

And while sad, still hysterically funny in an ironic kind of way.

agnes!

One of my favorite topics!!!

It NEVER fails...the same parents that let their kids run wild through stores are the very same parents that want to file a claim, or go running to a personal injury attorney, when the kids get hurt. Don't you know...it's always someone else's fault

LoL, no seriously, don't think Pandora's box was opened, but seriously haven't you been anywhere (including Disney) and said to yourself "Where is this little guy's parents?"

Of course I have.

But from the responses I've been reading on various Dis threads lately, it's apparently MY problem.
