My in-laws (ILS)
Titled, Today Was the Beginning of the Battle of the Parents
Now, when I say parents, Im referring to me and my DH and my mom and dad. My in-laws didnt really do much except eat and drive around in their scooters. But my parents have come along on all of our trips since I was pregnant with DS and I dont think theyve completely relaxed on any of them. Theyve been too worried about my kids, and on this trip, my grandmother. So the fire is under the pot now and the rolling boil isnt too far away.
I do have to admit that I started the fire today. Originally, my mom and AK were going to go early to the MK to see the Hall of Presidents while DH and I stayed back with the kids and MM and my dad. But I got this idea, that since yesterday morning at the MK wasnt crowded, that Id go along, just me and DD, so that I could get her into meet some princesses before the crowds got bad. What I didnt realize was that today was a morning EMH at MK. Now, when I told DH what my plan was, he wanted to come along with DS and take him to Toon Town. So, guilty as charged, I messed up the morning plan and my mom ended up staying back with MM. I did try to un-do what I had suggested, but my mom ended up insisting I do what I want. So it begins
So we get to MK and its around 9.15am. It is a bit crowded, but we head to Tinker Bells Treasures to do some shopping before Toon Town opens at 10am. It turns out that Presidents and Toon Town dont start operating until 10am. Had I known that, I would have stuck to the original plan. So were in Tinks store and DH finds these cute plush dolls of Tink and Ariel. DS finds a sippy cup for his sister and places it in the basket of our stroller. (DH and I didnt see him do this). So we pay for the dolls and head over to Toon Town. AK went off to see the Presidents while we were in Toon Town. DS got to play in the playground almost all alone. He loves this little playground and had a blast. While he was playing I went looking for something in the basket of the stroller and I find the sippy cup. I was horrified! I just shop-lifted from Disney! So I show the cup to DH and ask him if he knew about it. He said no, so I ran back to Tinks and returned the cup, apologizing left and right. Later on my DH commented Weve given Disney enough of our money over the years. Whats one little sippy cup? But Im an honest person and I wouldnt have felt right keeping it.
We went into the Judges Tent and got in line to meet the Princesses. We met Aurora (in pink), Cinderella and Snow White. DS didnt want to meet the Princesses, but when Snow White made a fuss over his Star Wars sneakers, he warmed up to her a little. She even kissed him on his cheek. It was very cute.
We met up with AK at this point and went back to the resort. It was a very hot day, so we went to the pool. I like the zero entry pool at the Polynesian. DD could sit and splash and DS could sit on the ledge and put his toes in. He wouldnt go into the pool any more than that, but he did like the sprinklers. DD on the other hand, loved being in the water! DH and I took her out to where it was about 4 feet or so and she loved being glided in the water. DS liked playing on the beach. MM bought him a giant Mickey Mouse shovel from the gift shop and a smaller shovel and pail. So that kept him busy for a while.
I really like the pool area and the slide. DD stayed in the shallow end with AK and DH and I got to go on the slide. It was really fast! But it was fun and Im glad I went on it.
After some time in the water and on the beach, we found a table with shade and got some snacks. DS got a Mickey bar. Nice snack, huh? He was on a strict junk-food diet in WDW and the Mickey Bar fit in perfectly. I had some nachos and a virgin strawberry daiquiri. We also had some carrots and grapes to munch on. While we were sitting at our table, my in-laws scooted up on their ecvs. They had a nice day of taking the boat from the Polynesian to the GF to the Polynesian, then scooting around the resort and taking pictures. We hung out for a little while longer. DS found a hammock and plopped himself down in it so that he could relax. It was very cute.
We went back to our rooms to get ready for our evening. We had ressies at Mama Melroses for the Fantasmic Dinner Package. Ive never tried Mama Melroses and was looking forward to it because Ive read lots of nice reviews on the DIS.
Again, we had no wait for the bus to MGM and this time there werent that many people on the bus when we got on. We got to MGM and went straight back to the restaurant. By the time we got to Mama Melroses, both kids were asleep in the stroller, so they kindly let us bring the stroller inside.
Dinner was very good. We had salad, four-cheese flatbread, chicken and pesto flatbread and the following entrees:
· Fra Diavlo
· Chicken Parm
· Salmon
· Veal Osso Buco
The food was more than plentiful and was very delicious. I will do Mama Melroses for the Fantasmic Dinner package again. We all got dessert. I got the 50th Celebration Dessert, but wasnt very impressed by it. It sounded good. Cappuccino gelato rolled in chocolate, toffee candy bar and espresso beans. There were too many espresso beans and it was bitter. The truffle cake that everyone else ordered was almost as good as my favorite Kilauea torte at Kona. Next time I know what to get.
After dinner we took DS to the Honey I Shrunk the Audience playground. He liked it, but not as much as the playground in MK.
We stayed here for a bit then headed over to Lights, Motors, Action.
Here is where the battle of the parents heated up. For one thing, it was hot. Even though it was approaching 6.30 at night, it was still oppressive. Secondly, where you park the strollers and the distance you have to walk to the stadium is terribly long. I warned everyone of this b/c I had read about on the DIS, but no one heeded my warning. Thankfully we were permitted to use the handicap access elevator for my in-laws. That saved a lot of walking up steps. And we did get a great viewing spot right in the center. But, the heat pressed on and the noise from the show wore on everyone. My dad started laying into me and DH, that we need to keep in mind everyones safety and not run them around for hours and hours every day. Well, this just irritated me right away because we had only been in a theme park for 2 hours AND those two hours were spent EATING! The rest of the morning they were at the hotel relaxing, sitting by the pool and generally doing very little. So DH and I were annoyed, but I bit my tongue and tried to enjoy the show.
The show was ok but I wont be rushing back to see it. I liked Residential Street and am sorry that it is gone.
After we got out of the stadium, we tried to find a cart to buy some water. Well, I was pretty upset that all the carts were closed (it was only 7pm and MGM didnt close until 10pm that night). So basically, I ran to the front of the park to find water. Oh, and as I was waiting in line, 2 people jumped the line and the CM didnt say anything. So, I did. I said to the rude guests, excuse me, but there is a line and you need to get at the end of it. Other people were thinking what I had said, so Im glad I said something. I was in a mood and no one was going to mess with me!
So I got my 7 bottles (yes 7!) and carried them back to the animation courtyard where I was meeting everyone. It was quite a sight seeing me carry all that water and I heard people saying Wow, thats a lot of water. But since it was so hot, it really felt good. LOL.
We relaxed on the benches and did some people watching for a little while. We were heading to Fantasmic and I wanted to get some milk for DS and DD. So I went to the Baby Care Center and told everyone Id meet them at our special entrance for Fantasmic. Would you believe that they dont sell milk at the MGM Baby Care Center? Yet another reason why this one is on the bottom of my list! MKs and AKs baby care centers are the BEST. Epcots is good, too, but MGMs is the pits!
So I was directed to a small food stand across from the BCC. I got in line and right away knew I was going to be there for a while. Well, 20 minutes later I got out of line! There was only 1 cm working there and boy was she in slow motion. I was furious at this point b/c I was told that the concession stand up in the amphitheater did not sell milk. Thankfully, that CM was wrong. When we got to our seats, my mom got in line at the concession stand and was able to get milk for my kids and a cute little lunch pack for DS.
I think everyone was more relaxed once we were seated and the temperature became a bit more bearable. Still, my overall mood was starting to waver because of the days events. But I did enjoy Fantasmic and both the kids stayed awake for it. They really liked it, even DD. I was worried about the loudness and villains, but it wasnt a problem.
We waited for most of the crowds to leave ahead of us before trekking to the park exit. I was going to find a park manager to let them know about the water and milk situation, but I decided to let it go. I think I was more irritated with my family than with Disney, so I just let it go.
We got back to the resort and it was approaching 10.30pm. But do you think my kids were asleep? No! They stayed awake until almost midnight! At least were on vacation. At home this would have not been a good thing!
I finally crawled into bed at 12.30am and I had to get up early for some time alone with DH at Epcot. Stay tuned .the adventure is just beginning!
