In the early 1980s, I carried a navy blue purse with wooden handles. It has a place to stick on an engravable (actually plastic) plaque with your initials. You had to mail off for that. This purse looked so cool with my plaid Tretorns. :thumbsup2

A girlfriend of mine things these were Bermuda bags, but I don't think they look quite right. I've looked on eBay, and don't remember mine having a removable cover...

Anyone else have one? The removable name badge was the biggie...

Oh my gosh, I remember these! I had 2. One had a removeable cover, it was pink with green piping and it buttoned around the top to remove it. I actually saw someone carrying one of these in Boston last week. Are they "in" again?

I forget what they were called. Oh, I had the plaid tretorns too!

I can't help you with the purse, sorry, but you made me remember Tretorns! I had three pair of them in high school...I just went to their website and do you know they cost $60.00 for a pair of canvas shoes?????? I don't remember them being an extravagant purchase in high school!!

I loved my Tretorns!!! My best Tretorn memory, however, is not my own. My sister had just gotten a brand new pair, and wore them to the church picnic the next day. She dropped a whole piece of lasagna on her new shoes!! I laughed so hard, she was almost in tears!! Boy, I sure was a meanie!

If I 'm thinking of the same purse we called them Papagallo purses. But I think that's because the store we bought them at was "Papagallo's".

Wow! You took me back!! I had the purse too with lots of covers --they did button at the top to change them out--loved that purse :lovestruc And WOW Tretorns were my favorite--have'nt thought about those in forever--they have a website!!!!!???????? :lmao: Let's not forget about the Twist-a-bead necklaces!!! That was STYLE :rotfl:

I don't remember the purse having a name?.???

I remember the Bermuda Bag. I had one in solid navy that reversed to a navy stripe, had the wooden handles. I dont recall a removable name tag that you could send for though. Sorry, hope you find it!

I just told DD about that bag recently! Darn the name!! I made Mom go to a boutique for that bag! Mine buttoned on different covers and had the wooden handle. hmmm let me think.. name was ...

I have no clue what you all are talking about.

The bags that were hot in the 80's were Liz Claiborne and Louis Vuitton.

Wooden handles sounds like the 70s.

I was going to say the same thing.

NO, no, no!!!!! Every preppie girl had the penny loafers, button down collar, with the Izod sweater OR little ribbon bow thru the collar, and this little purse with the button on cover and wooden handles. :thumbsup2

Dang! What part of the country did you grow up in? :goodvibes LV? Wow.

I do remember Liz Claiborne, though. I wanted one in the 5th grade, but my mom didn't think a 5th grader needed a purse that expensive. I was in an advanced program with kids bussed in from the "ritzy" part of town and the girls all had them. We carried them through middle school. In high school, we all had LL Bean backpacks with those reflector strips.

The purse I'm thinking of couldn't have been the 70s because I was born in 1976 and I had one of these purses in elementary school and early middle school. Early to mid-80s...

Ya it was the late 70's!!

THE BERMUDA BAG was the name!!!!!!!! :lmao:

Here it is :rotfl:

80's girl here :jumping1: I remember these purses, I think we called them burmuda bags.

I remember those purses, except I don't remember the initial part.
I also remember spending hours making those ribbon barrettes with the long tails. Anyone else do that?
