Hi, I read that adults could get motion sickness medication on board the cruise in case someone was not feeling well, does anyone know if there is also medication for children that we could get while on the cruise if it was necessary?
Thanks!

I think you must mean what they have free samples of, at the health center? (As opposed to buying it in the gift shops.) I only remember meclizine being out there, which my ped wasn't ok with for my younger child. Apparently there used to be a children's version of it, but for whatever reason, they took it off the market. Honestly, I would just buy a small box of off-brand kids' Dramamine prior to the cruise, and then not have to worry about it. That's what I did, and he didn't end up needing it - but I was happy to be prepared. I brought an arsenal, with kids' seabands and ginger tablets too, all unnecessary, LOL!

Yes, I was trying to figure out how much to bring with us (it's also looking like an arsenal!). I was just wondering what would happen if we ran out and we needed more.

Ah, ok, then maybe a big box! :) I never had a reason to go IN the health center. I have to imagine they either have it in there, but maybe they charge for it, or sell it in the shops for some crazy price. Probably better to be over-prepared than pay ship prices! Depending on your kids' ages, you might be able to make it stretch more than you realize. Our ped said to start with the smallest dose possibly (the box gives you a range for the dosage), and that was for a (very big for his age 5ft tall) 8yo. I would think younger kids usually get the smallest dose. Also, my 11yo was ok'd for meclizine b/c she's 5'8" and adult sized, so if you have a kiddo like that - you might be ok with the free meclizine, if your pediatrician gives you the OK.

Dramamine is Dimenhydrinate. Kid's Dramamine is Dimenhydrinate. Adults is a 50 mg dose; kid's is 25 mg.

Less Drowsy Dramamine is Meclizine. Bonine is Meclizine.

Both drugs are, weirdly, antihistamines. Dimenhydrinate is also an anticholinergic.

If the ship has dramamine (not bonine and not less drowsy dramamine), and if by some chance your kid gets motion sickness, give them half the adult dose of it.
