Child swap and FP+ work independently of each other. Child swap is for families where one adult stands in the stand-by line. When they finish, the other adult uses the child swap pass to access the ride through the FP line (they only need the child swap pass, not also a FP). Up to two other people can go with the second adult when they ride through the FP line.

The idea is to ensure that families do not have to stand in the stand-by line twice if they have a small child.

If you are using FP+, you would use the FP line separately and you would not need a child swap pass.

What if my family gets FP for soarin but one member is not tall enough can me and my son go on then my husband and son go on together still in the FP line?

That is how it worked the old system and as far as I know, it still works that way on the new system.

Better yet, you can get around the tiering in both Epcot and DHS by booking 2 on 1 ride and 2 on another ride and just swapping bands. That is what we will be doing on our trip.

This could all change as they continue to modify FP+, but as of right now it still works and I doubt they will change it.

When we were just there we originally got 3 FP+ for things like Big Thunder and Space Mountain but we have a 2 year old and needed to do a child swap and found out for child swap they only wanted/needed a FP scanned for 1 adult and then gave you the return ticket for up to 3 riders. Things like Space Mountain / Test Track take at lease 30 minutes for a group to come out so both adults using a FP+ in the 1 hour window can be tough.

What worked for us for Space Mountain was to book 2 FP+ for adult/older child and the other 1 FP+ (or 2 FP+ if your too small rider is over 3 years) for an attraction near it like Tommorrow Speedway or Buzz's ride at the same time window as Space Mountain. Then use the child swap ticket for the other adult to take older child again.

Oh and they need to see the too small child at the gate to get the child swap ticket so don't forget to bring them with you.
