My 9yo is currently awake and can't get to sleep (slept for 2 hours and woke up). And she's turned into the cookie monster at 1am and says she's starving. I'm a bit worried as she has school in the morning. ::yawn:: going to be a long night

Anyone else had problems with child insomnia?

okay. she kept me up most of the night. Got her to go to sleep around 3am  :faint: now I'm sleepy . Yawn :faint:

Is she worried about something at school?
One of our DD's is a worrier about school things and it sometimes interferes with her sleep.

She is also 9 like yours.

She really likes to read though and even though they have a TV in their bedroom it must be off by 8:30PM on school nights. After that if she isn't sleepy she may read.

DH usually pries the book out of her hand when he goes to tuck them in before we go to bed. She is out cold! Encouraging and enforcing the no TV thing has not only been helping her in the sleep dept., it is great for her to read!

One night last week she was studying for a social studies test in bed after her little sister (roommate) fell asleep.

For some reason DH didn't go in there that night I think I tucked them in when she was still awake.

She told me the next morning that she woke up aroound 2 am and realized that she had not finished studying because she must have dozed off. She stayed awake for an hour studying all over again. I know that when I was 9, I was not that dedicated of a student!

or, I am not diagnosing here....
One of our children has ADHD. He has never been a good sleeper. It is not at all unusual for him to be wide awake at midnight , 1 , 2 am. He is 13 1/2 and finally went on medication this year. What a difference! He is "like a real boy" now. Sleeps like the rest of the family. It was just that he couldn't turn off his brain and relax enough to go to sleep before.

I'd make certain her belly is sufficiently full at bedtime so I could tell her with confidence there'll be no more cookies (or anything else) at 1am!!
