After watching Deuce Bigalow (a rather unfortunate event  ) I was wondering what is so racist about chicken served on waffles?

Well go figure, they just talked about it on Food Network! Apparently, the concept is people can't decide whether they want breakfast or lunch/dinner. Interesting.

Haven't seen the movie or heard of any racist connotations, but I've heard of a restaurant that's like Joe's Chicken and Waffles. I think in LA. :confused3

I would like to know the answer to this too. It's a southern dish, but not exclusive to an ethnic group.

OMG! you guys I just figured it out! but I'm going to keep my mouth shut! thats horrible!

Well, they showed on TV that it started in some of the black restaurants in Harlem I think. :confused3

what's horrible or racist about chicken and waffles?

if i posted it on here, i would be a troll. thats my last post on this thread. end of story.

waffels are dutch food - the dutch are the ones who started the slave trade

chicken was used as a symbol of the KKK for 1.negro hatred 2.the faulties of the union 3.the stupidity of negros (which was only propaganda not true) because of a KKK film which depicted them as terrorists and dumb farmers who ate chicken

together it is like negros are stupid they should be enslaved.

Crazydingoman,

Boy that's abit of a stretch. It may fall togther but there has to be a simpler explaination. After all the typical Duece Bigalow fan isn't going to link all of that together.

I always heard it was served in resturants around clubs that the performers would eat in after a night of performing. I know in NYC there are several resturants that serve this together.

There is a chicken and waffles restaurant here in Louisville. I don't think it's a racist thing at all, in fact, the guy who opened the restaurant is African American. I think it's just southern soul food.

I googled the restaurant and here is an excerpt from one of the reviews:

The chicken-and-waffles combination is one of those strange culinary phenomena whose origins are tough to pin down. Chicken-and-waffle places are often seen in urban African-American neighborhoods in such cities as Los Angeles and New York, but are also found in Pennsylvania Dutch country at church suppers. Some folks even claim that mixing chicken with waffles originated in Louisiana.

the dutch didn't start slave trading. It existed for thousands of yrs before there were any "Dutch". If you mean the African slave trade n Europe and the colonies, it was started by the Portuguese.
The waffles iron was created in the US. I could not find any reference to what culture started making waffles and/or if it predated the invention of the waffle iron.

I also couldn't find any refference to the KKK using chickens as a symbol of AA. Of course there is the old racial stereo-type of AA eating fried chicken, watermellon chittlings etc, but I've never ever heard of chicken and waffles as being racial.

Well my question is this...as I have NEVER in m life heard of eating chicken with waffles.....do you wrap the waffle around the chicken..put the chicken on the waffle and add sauce to it....how do they serve it????

I'venever seen it served, but I do know that it is common in old AA families in the south to serve honey with fried chiken. Had no idea until I was eating with friends in a Churches Fried Chicken in August about 18 yrs ago.
