My DD 4 1/2 just came down with the Pox yesterday, poor thing...My DD 8 1/2 was vaccinated, but at the time we needed to wait for the little one to get older, she was a baby..I guess we waited to long:confused3:lmao:. Anyways, my reason for posting this here, and you all will understand I am sure..my DH said to me last night after I got home from the Calamine Lotion, Oatmeal Bath run to the store..At least this isn't a few days before our trip to Disney...I think I trained him well, Gals!!:thumbsup2

Thanks, the Dr gave us a prescription for an anti-viral that should lessen the effects of the virus, we'll see. And we leave in a month plus one day..talk about timing!!!

I hope they are better soon. Your 8 year old will probally have a mild case since they were vac'd but I would check with dr about the 4 year old to make sure it does not get too bad,I am not sure what they can give you but it could be bad without vacine. Good luck!

Your DD is in our prayers. Chicken pox can be a very serious disease that many people take too lightly. I hope your DD is one of the lucky ones with a mild case. :grouphug:

Thanks guys!!
So far so good, only a mild fever that comes down with motrin, and the blisters seem to be slowing down..she is really itchy and at her age it is really hard to get her to understand the no itch policy...but I think the anti-viral medicine may be working to keep the severity of the infection down.
Thanks again for the positive thoughts, and you are right about people not taking it too seriously. I have warned our sitter and the school to let the other parents know about getting their kids vaccinated now if they want..it's a great idea..too bad we didn't heed that advice ourselves in time...

Oh, your poor little girl. I got it in middle school. I still have the scars on my face! It was a miserable two weeks.

I got my son vaccinated at whatever point they normally do that....I did NOT want him to go through the same thing if at all possible.

Here's hoping it all goes quickly and mildly.

I got the chix pox 2 weeks before my first disney trip. My parents took me to disney anyway. The doctor said i was no longer contagious, and to bundle me up and put me on the plane. Boy have things changed. That was 35 years ago. hummmmmmm, what would they say now?????

Hope shes feeling better soon. Give lots of kisses, that always makes little ones feel better

You are very lucky this isn't a few days before your trip. My dd, now 9yrs old, came home on the last day of Kindergarten with a high fever and vomiting. The morning of her appt. she shows me a bump behind her ear that was already scabbed over. It turned out she caught Strep Throat AND 3 doctor's came in to look at her bump because they weren't sure what it was since she had the varicella vaccine. The next day her bumps multiplied and she was itching like crazy. I called her dr. to give her an update and when I told her that she said it was definitly chicken pox. It was a mild case luckily but not so lucky for my then dd 8yrs and dd 11yrs. It turns out that neither one of them had gotten the vaccine yet. I figured, let them get it since it was the summertime adn they would be done with it. Sure enough, 2 weeks to the day that my youngest showed me the bump, the older 2 had them. They had them in places that you could only imagine! I felt so bad for them. My middle daughter LOVED the oatmeal baths. She said they really helped her. I hope your daughter feels better soon. I remember how miserable my daughter was so I can imagine how yours is feeling..

Oh I don't have to imagine I remember very well!! I was six at the time and it was horrible!

For the parents with younger kids than mine who have had their kids vaccinated, keep in mind that they will have to be revaccinated at around age 12 to 13. The first vaccine does not build enough antibodies to last long term according to my Dr. After the second vaccine it was advised that in 10 years they have blood drawn to ensure that the antibodies are still present in their system. Dr. said that after the second vaccine that they should be immune but to be safe they should do a titer to make sure.

All three of my kids were vaccinated when they were little. Whatever the recommended age is.

My son had Chicken Pox last month. He is 11. He got a very mild case but, he had to stay out of school for a week. Not good in 6th grade, he had a ton of work to make up.

My other two did not get it, thankfully. They are each getting the booster at their next physicals based on the Dr's suggestion.

Good luck to you and your daughter. I hope it does not bother her too much!

Pixie dust to your little one! My DD had chicken pox at 10 months old before she was old enough for the vaccine.

I had chicken pox when I was 5 and that was back in the day that when a neighborhood child came down with chicken pox, every other child was sent to play with them, just to get the chicken pox over with. :) What would today's Dr.'s say to that?

We had "chicken pox parties" too, and I had a serious case at 7 or 8. I also got a mild case when I was a 11. Hooray for lifelong immunity, since now I'm covered with no further need to vaccinate/booster shots.

My mom put mittens on my hands so even if I scratched, I couldn't break the skin.

Too funny.

Just a word of warning, watch your older DD too. My son was vaccinated but still got the chicken pox from his cousin (BTW, she got hers on the day we left for our trip, not WDW, although we didn't realize it until we reached our destination) 14 days exactly after exposure. He had maybe 50 pox, but he still got it. Your DD is getting close to the booster age on the Varicella vaccine so her initial shot may not protect her. The good thing is if she gets them you won't have to re vaccinate her :goodvibes. So be watching her closely about 14 days from the 20th.

That's what I thought with my DD. However, since she had a mild case, the pediatrician felt that we should vaccinate just to make sure. :)
