Chicago Cubs fans - Rebuilding Year 2023

Cole Hamels to the Cubs, done deal, pending medicals.

Now we can send Chatwood packing. Guy is awful!

Hamels recent stats are concerning for sure, but he didn't cost anything really.
Or they go with a 6 man..but Lester will not be a fan of that, or Hendricks for that matter. (tho he would adjust). Might be Monty they want to see get more rest as well. Time will tell. The lovely *fans* booing Chatty after he walked Avila maybe needed to see this

That frazzled him and then he walked Godley. Willy went to the mound to tell him his stuff was right, the Ump was wrong, but the crowd certainly didn't help his confidence any. And while he was on the hook for 2 of the walks in the 5th , he didn't serve up the grand slam..Duensing did after HE was robbed of the 3rd strike pitch to Descalso. Very next pitch Ahmed crushed the Grand Slam. I know Willy's framing isn't helping matters but these Ump calls are not just game changing anymore. they are season changing . Not just to the Cubs , it's pretty bad across the league.

Hamels has a 2.93 ERA away from home stadium though (hitter friendly park). Plus, maybe he'll be reinvigorated to go to a contender (this happens quite a bit for veterans). He will certainly be an upgrade over Chatty.

He was really good in May and June. Was pretty bad in July but again, his 2 home starts in July were the biggest problem.

The same selling tactic on Chatwood. I like Chatwood, (on my own island, I know) so I am not going with upgrade thoughts yet. I know Hamels is decent on the road (or was) I remember his nono just about 3 years ago to the day at Wrigley. However ~more recently, Hamel does give up hard contact and every 6th is a home run. Wrigley may not be the best match..or Coors, GABP or the late season AZ series. At the same time I am hopeful our defense and Hickey can bring him back closer to what he was. Again, pretty risk free deal and hopefully he will love the Cubs environment (well, minus the spoiled fans)Gotta be a boost to be going from last place to first overnight, lol. Pretty sure Chavez is thrilled with that bonus and the team mates are together again, and Darvish. The reunion of Hamels and Darvish may be the biggest reason of all for acquiring him..maybe he gives Yu the security blanket he needs .

I was hoping for Sonny Gray when we acquired Q. Gray has not done well w/NYY tho.
Not sure if you saw this article but interesting

I wonder who is the player to be named later. Hopefully, not Bote. As long as Kris is out, Bote is good in his place. Or when Javy is out. But they can have Happ or Duensing or Wilson. We were at the Miami game when Eddie went seven innings. I was impressed. When he got back, I was glad to see him. Now, he's going to be a Ranger.

will be a AA or lower guy. Bote's not going anywhere. Yeah, that was hurry up and get Eddie up here move for the trade, lol. This basically gives the guys the confidence that Theo and Co believe they can make it back to the post season. Trades can be made after the deadline, they are just a little more red tape involved but can certainly (and have) been done. Never hurts to see who got passed over for the starts, KWIM? Just need to band aid things together until the off season when $$$ gets a FA and we don't have to break up the core, especially for a rental. Everyone still saying DeGrom, lol.. I don't think they get that the Mets are better off keeping the one great piece they have and build around him. Mets do not have to trade him off and I sure as heck wouldn't. After the pitching woes we have had? No way would I get rid of the one guy that can be counted on. Happ...his switch hitting is what will keep him. TLS is the one who needs to be looking over his shoulder~tho I do believe if he isn't Cub, he retires (plus Joe loves him) any pitching deal would take two starters, Happ+Russell, or Schwarber plus a AAA~ Caratini, Bote, etc...and I don't think Theo is gonna offer up pieces that are that valuable to us, unless the AL opponent is looking pretty cut and dry.

TIME TO REPAY CARPENTER SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

El Mago is back! He certainly used his magical powers in the AZ series, lol. He literally makes things happen just walking onto the field.
Finally ~a normal 3 game series!!!!!

I have become agnostic on Chatty. He seems to lose every time I see him play, but I don't think he gets the run support. So I am still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I don't know enough about Hamels but if he he helps ground Darvish that would be good.

Agnostic is a great analogy...especially since the guy came in under a cloud of doubt I just don't think he has allowed himself to relax and let mechanics take over. Here's a little *alleged" example of Theo's power..could be excrutiating-ly intimidating if you are not his cup of tea. Add in nasty crowd's calling for your head and now the pressure of Hamel's being liked better just because he isn't you..I feel for Chatwood and am really pulling for him.

in april I was told by some1 I trust that theo absolutely hated eddie butler bc he was a cancer, he wasnt honest abt injuries, zero workethic. theo then said EB was going on the fake DL & EB wouldnt be activated until they had a trade for him. theo traded butler today. his league

as far as Darvish goes..apparently Cole Hamel's is Yu Darvish's son's favorite player.

Seiko Darvish‏ @seiko63
These are part of my son’s room. He brought his everything in Chicago. #baseball #yudarvish #colehamels #cubs #GoCubsGo

So on top of the psychological benefit of Yu having his buddy as a team mate again, he has the incentive of getting back out thre and not being outdone by his son's hero..maybe? This is me grasping at straws.

well that was underwhelming. If they are going to keep putting Happ at 3rd, he's going to have to grow about 6 inches to cover what KB can. I am going to temp fate by posting Quintana Manana, lol..at 1 minute to midnight :rotfl:

Happ on 3rd again~he certainly is getting the playing time :scratchin..guess we know where STL will be hitting the ball

LETS GO CUBBIE'S!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish they'd put Bote on 3rd instead of Happ. And put Zobrist on 2nd. How did I know that Happ would strike out looking for the third out in the ninth inning yesterday?

Oh, and I hate the Schwarber, Happ, Pitcher batting order. Three strikes for sure.

only reason Schwarb's is a strike would be the Umps. He has been rung up on crap calls all season and that one on a checked swing today was absolute larceny. Bote out at 2nd in the 8th (or was it the 7th) was a crock of sh*! as well.
These guys are playing like they just got bad news on Kb or something...what do they know that we don't? Our 3.5 game lead down to .5 (most likely) and game is on ESPN :headache:AGAIN :headache:tomorrow night which has been bad luck 90% of the time. Normally I would be absolutely giddy that we have SD/KC B2B series, but I'm not going to assume anything. Theo has got to be pissed about the SP...I mean, really , really PO'd.

They are playing like "If I play badly, I won't get traded".
lol I said the same thing yesterday~Happ trying to decrease his value and sabotage any interest in him. Cubs just suck at STL ballpark..and I give JHey major props for fighting to get those catches out there , especially against/off the wall. I mean, that concussion was only a few months ago on the ball hit by Dex. Not easy to push those ghosts away.

as if it didn't sting enough to not make the WS Roster & then not having his contract renewed, and the headaches Jason went through in trying to get signed somewhere~:faint::rotfl2:
