Chest pain, what do you think?

I keep having this irritated feeling in my chest. Well, my left side. It's not painful per se.....just sorta like a weak feeling. Sometimes my left arm feels weak and sometimes I feel a little fluttering in my chest on the left side...but that's about it...nothing painful where as though I have to grab my chest or something...but I am a little concerned. It just seems like that side feels tired or something. I went to my doctor before when I had the same thing and they gave me an EKG (which they said should be framed because it turned out perfectly)...They asked me about home, which I told them, and they said it may be due to stress and that since I'm 23 with no type of medical history (except for diabetes), I should not be worried about a heart attack or anything.....I always worry about stuff like that....I don't know...it doesn't hurt, but it's just a weak feeling.....what do you think?

Well, when you exert yourself ie: go upstairs etc...does the feeling increase?

I say if you are concerned, have it checked out but in all probability given your age and family history (or lack thereof!) it's nothing at all. When we are concerned about something niggling..we can make it seem like something more.

Keep us posted...

Have you seen a cardiologist or had the EKG done while you are having the chest discomfort? I would call again and if he does not help you either go to ER next time you have the feeling or call another doctor. Let us know how you are doing :grouphug:

When it comes to your health I say it is better to be safe than sorry. If you are concerned go see someone about it. If nothing is wrong at least you will feel relieved that your not having a heart attack.

Thanks...oh and yes, I DID have it done while I was having the same discomfort.

I go to webmd.com a lot for health related issues. It is very informative. Just plug in one of your symptoms in the search engine and you will bring up lots of topics. It can really ease your mind to do a little research in advance of going to the doctor. I would follow the suggestion of the other posters and get to a cardiologist.

Good Luck!

If you had the test done while having the same sensation..I would say that it's just your nerves getting the better of you. I am in a high risk category (family history) and see a Cardiologist yearly as basically 'preventative medicine' but the odds sound pretty much all in your favour!!

I am sure this too shall pass....can always see your family Dr tomorrow if it persists?

It could be anxiety. Since you have been checked--I would do what I can to minimize stress....and if the pain gets worse or conditions don't improve...demand a more detailed checkup.

I had bad chest pains in my early 20s (probably about the same age in fact). I guess I used a portable EKG or something--they placed the pads on my chest and I carried around a box. Anytime I had a pain--I pressed a button so it would mark it. This was for 24 hours. They looked at the printout--my heart was behaving normally at all the markers. I was working this day.

I gave up trying to pursue the cause---didn't want to be a hypochondriac. Ended up getting counseling for anxiety (with other more obvious symptoms). I forget the therapy name...but the Psych basically said we were "rewiring" my brain--teaching myself the correct responses to situations.

I noticed that once I fixed myself in that regard--I felt less anxious and also noticed that around the time counseling began and I was given soem tools on what to do about it....the chest pains disappeared. A lot of my anxiety was work related--so hence the large number of times I pressed the button when getting checked earlier for a physical problem.

Long story short--if they cannot find anything physically wrong with you--you may benefit seeing a psychologist to see if you have anxiety b/c anxiety can cause those symptoms.

Did your doc have a stress test done?
They did a full work-up on me. I had severe chest pain, which was reflux issues. Are you taking pain pills, ibuprofin, napricin, anti-inflamitories for a recent injury or chronic pain issue.

If you are, it can cause some stomach issues, along with reflux for some people. Not everyone gets the stomach problems, but some do.
Some people can have severe pain in the esophogus, and not really realize its reflux, and sometimes its extremely painful. It can even make your throat raw soar and white.
A friend was taking those fosomax like treatments for low calcuim in the bones, and she didn't realize it was reflux.

Other people it shows up w/ severe stress, like going to college, planning a wedding, get a job promotion, divorce, you know big life changing events and your body letting you know your not dealing w/ the stress.
Sometimes its food oriented after symtoms begin.

If you have a family history, I would be more inclined to request a stress test to check your heart.
I'm not a doc, and don't play one on tv.
Good Luck,

I'd definitely have a cardiologist look at you. You have a clean family history, but you need to find out what this is. Mitral Valve prolapse can act this way and usually that's pretty benign, but if you have it, you need to know how to manage it.
