David: He wheeled himself over to a table and put his face in his hands. Today was an amazing day, but that didn't mean he felt any better. His head was always throbbing and he felt so weak. It took everything out of him to stand and walk three times today. He felt tears form in his eyes. He knew he was starting to give up. Today was the day he was surviving for, anyways. He knew it wouldn't be long. And he honestly didn't want it to be long. He just wanted all the suffering to end. A single tear dripped from his eye onto the tablecloth.
Marcus: He had gotten David food. "You okay, man?"
David: "You know, Marcus, I think it's about time for me to give up on my fight. I'm in so much pain."
Marcus: He wanted to say something to convince him otherwise, but couldn't. "I understand." He sighed. "How long do you think it'll be?"
David: "A week or two. Maybe less..."
Marcus: He frowned and hugged David. "I'm so sorry."
Trent: He was at the table behind them and had heard. He started to cry quietly.
Matt: He returned and quickly started to comfort the younger boy. He pulled Trent outside and hugged him tightly.
Trent: He burst into tears. "I don't want him to go. He's one of my only friends."
Matt: "I know, Trent, I know. He's a great guy and I'm sure you went through a lot in chemical alley together. But you need to think of it from his perspective. When you were with Valhalla, in all that pain, you wanted to die, didn't you? You would've given up everything for the pain to stop?"
Trent: he nodded. "Yeah, but-"
Matt: "There's no way David can escape his cancer like you escaped them. It's going to take his life sooner or later and if he's giving up we need to accept that. If you care about him as much as I know you do you wouldn't force him to keep living through all of the pain."
Trent: "I know. I just-I'm gonna miss him bad."
Matt: He sat down on the grass and held Trent on his lap. "I know. And I'll miss him too. It's a horrible thing," he said, stroking his boyfriend's hair. "We just have to be here for him."
Trent: He nodded, resting his head on Matt's chest and closing his eyes.
Matt: He continued to stroke Trent's long, shaggy hair and smiled as he held him close. He kissed his forehead. "I love you. Everything will be okay."
Trent: "I love you too."
