Chefs must be getting more calls

I called five different WDW restaurants today, as instructed when I made our PSs, to let them know about my son's peanut allergy. In the past I've gotten right to a chef. Today every call went right to a chef's voice mail box.

The Kona Cafe chef's voicemail even had a statement that you should just tell your server when you arrive at the restaurant to bring out the chef of the day, and they can handle your allergy then. Of course, you could leave a message if you felt your situation required a call back.

They must be getting a lot more special dietary requirement calls than in years past. I guess it is about one and a half years since I've gone to WDW with my son. When I travel without him, I rarely plan ahead and so don't make PSs.

I think we've chatted before? My daughter also has a peanut allergy. I have found it becoming harder and harder to get hold of anyone before arriving. This past year we went several times and only a couple times I actually ever got hold of anyone. I still think they are pretty prepared even if you talk to them when you check in at the podium. The WDW chefs are much more knowledgeable than your typical restaurants down the street... Have fun and stay safe!

Interesting... My 3 yr old is PA, so I'll be in your shoes in early Feb...calling the restaurants to prepare them for us.

I'd be very interested to hear about your trip (in relation to dealing with the PA) when you return!! Have a magical time! :D:D

I dont think anyone here is, but for others reading, I just wanted to note here, dont panic if you cant get in touch with a Chef beforehand. Since finding out my DS has a peanut allergy we have taken 6 trips to WDW. In all those meals over all those trips we have only called ahead and talked to a Chef once and mainly what they told us was to mention it to our waiter and they would talk to us then. Like Lenshanem said, the Chefs in WDW are very knowledgable and they do take the time to come talk to you and make sure your child(or youself) will be safe. They really go above and beyone the call of duty, even when you dont call ahead.
Best of luck to you all.

They have done the same thing for my DD who is allergic to shrimp, going through the buffet at Cape May for example, and pointing out anything that might trigger her.

One other tip - we have never had a problem except at Boma's at AKL. Despite the chef walking us thru the breakfast buffet she still reacted. It was very mild. Few hives around her mouth and we only had to give her Benadryl. Regardless, I'd advise anyone with a peanut allergy not to eat there. I think they have numerous items on the dinner buffet that contain nuts. This reaction was obviously a contamination issue.
