At our 1st time at Chef's in Nov '06 the food was off.
I had chicken & despite the fact I like a drier bird, it was wicked dry. I
did not order it 'dry', just ordered. The assortment of French pates and charcuteries were pretty bleak. The cheese apps were so-so, looked as if it had sat around a bit.. The waiter gave DSthen16 a little tussle over setting the sauce on the side instead of over his beef dish. I had to intervene, politely.
In general the waiter was not rude & his service was good. We just felt the food was so-so at best. In our humble opinion, one poor meal, though, doesn't make a bad review, so we didn't write it off.
Okay, 3rd week of this past Nov DH & I went back for lunch, & the food & service was wonderful! I had the French menu & DH had the baked mac 'n' cheese. We both enjoyed a glass of wine & espresso.
Our waiter was chatty & very efficient. We felt comfortable & we're very glad we didn't make any rash decisions.
the folks next to us had the pate/chauc. assortment & cheese plates & they looked MUCH better than what we had in '06
We always do try to stack the deck in our favor by choosing meal times that are not popular. We also travel during 'low' visitation times. We may get better service simply because the traffic isn't there.
BTW, we tried Akershus for the 1st time in November & despite some pretty horrible reviews, enjoyed very decent food & excellent service

I admit I was trepidatious, we girded our loins & prepared for the worst.
I mean the buffet food was very fresh & well supplied. Nice range of offerings. Our waiter was attentive & friendly. Character interaction was super, too!
You just never know!
