Chef Mickey's

We have a PS at Chef Mickey's for Oct 24th. Our son's 5th birthday is Oct 23rd. Am I crazy to feel let down that we will be celebrating his birthday a day late, and should I be concerned that we didn't get a seating until 7:40 pm on the 24th (seems kind of late)? This is our first trip to WDW and I so want everything to be just perfect!!

We are doing the opposite. My son will be 4 on 10/24, but we are celebrating at Garden Grill on 10/23 for dinner, because we are going home early on 10/24.

To be honest, he won't know the difference. He will also have a cupcake celebration at school on 10/25.

I have PS for Chef Mickey's on 12/1. When I made the PS, the Cm asked if we were celebrating anything. I said, not that night, but the trip was for my birthday which is 12/6. He said he was going to note it anyway. Birthdays are for celebrating.

So, I will be celebrating my birthday for the entire week!

I wouldn't worry about it being a day late. After celebrating at Chef Mickey's, he will never forget this birthday! Enjoy!

I have 364 of them a year compared to one birthday party I think with the character intreaction which is great your dear little one will have a great time.Have a great vacation and be flexible enough to let those magic moments happen and they will be magical for a lifetime.

I have been to Chef Mickeys quite often and in my experience, you can go on another night or earlier without a ps reservation. You may have to wait for a seat but there is usually not a problem. If you go when they first open you could probably get seated pretty fast. Also, make sure when you get up to the front you tell the hostess that you would like to be seated in the main room and that it is your sons birthday. The main room is usually a lot more fun than the upstairs room or the room right off of the entrance way.

If you go to the magic kingdom don't forget to stop at city hall and let them know that it is your sons birthday. You will get a pin and other "perks" for visiting there on the big day.

I dined here for dinner on my last trip and was very disappointed. This was the worst meal I had ever had on WDW property. The food was awful and only 2 characters came to visit within a one hour time frame. I was surprised at all of this since we have dined there for breakfast a few times and have always been pleased.

For a buffet, I would strongly recommend the Crystal Palace.
For a character meal, I would recommend the Crystal Palace, Liberty Tree Tavern or Garden Grill.
For a fun sit-down meal, I'd recommend the Whispering Canyon Cafe.

iamdaisyduck, that's not always the case. While visiting in May, we tried to call and get a 5:00PM ressie for 4 adults and could not. So we went to Chef Mickeys at 4:30PM and checked in and was seated at 5:00 PM as a walkin....wow. In July we had a 5:00PM ressie, and while checking in, the CM announced to the huge line of folks that they could not accept NO WALKINS tonight. They were completely booked. So can you imagine taking a 5 year old and standing in line, only to be told to go away!!! how horrible and memorable is that? When we go as walkins we are usually just a part of adults--very little whining and kicking and screaming goes on if we can't get in (I've got that under control now). Just MHO. So I would imagine, during slower times, I would try for a walkin, busier times, I would think twice and also think how it would accept the folks in our party.

BTW: we've always had good service and good food at Chef Mickeys.
