We are 2 30 year olds headed to Disney for 5 days/4 nights in December. I've only been twice before (last time was 2011); DH has never been. I feel like CM is the quintessential character dining, but I just learned that H&V has roughly the same characters during the holiday. Which would you choose? Or would you pass on a character meal? Character dining is not a huge must, but I thought it would be fun for 1 meal. We will be on DDP.

Does CM still have a bad food reputation? I remember it was below basic buffet fare years ago, but the characters made up for it.

Has anyone done the Minnie Holiday Dine? Is it covered under the DDP (appears that it is)? Semi leaning towards this for the Fanstamic! Package.

Not sure if you are thinking of breakfast or dinner but I haven't been to CM in about 18 years or so because the food was just not good for us for dinner. I keep thinking about trying it for breakfast as we have found that Goofy's Kitchen at Disneyland is better at breakfast then dinner.

We have been to H&V for both Christmas and Halloween for dinner and the food is okay not great but not uneatable either. It is cool seeing them dressed up in there holiday outfits and it is a good way to get a picture with Santa Goofy during winter time. If you want to go for the character then the Fantasmic package is great use of a TS credit but if you are thinking about peer food wise I would skip both if it was me.

If you are thinking of doing dinner, I recommend Minnie's Holiday Dine over Chef Mickeys. We have done both and though the food was much better at Minnies. Also, the Characters in their Christmas outfits are so cute.

For December I am going to vote for Minnie's Holiday Dine. I love Chef Mickey's too but they are very similar food wise so I'd pick the other for the Christmas theme.

Any idea when Minnie's starts??? Breakfast or dinner? I hadn't heard about this!

To be honest, I'm not really a fan of either location. Chef Mickey's is really chaotic and noisy but the character interaction is good and the food is decent. Hollywood and Vine, the character interaction is incredible and the holiday outfits are a really nice touch but the food is awful. If I were only going to do one character meal, it would be Tusker House. You don't get the Fab Five, but you do get Donald, Daisy, Mickey and Goofy (I think) in safari clothes. The interaction is great and the food is so much better than the other two locations.
