Thought that title would make people read the thread, clever ay:thumbsup2

Anyway back to the point: A friend told me that due to the renovation at the Contemporary, Character Breakfasts will be moving to somewhere else or stopping altogether. Any truth in this?

Having never been to Chef Mickeys (Only past on the Monorail), I really want to do it on our next trip. Anyone got any recent photos?

Thanks

It's possible that they may temporarily relocate the character meal during the time that the Concourse Steakhouse area is being refurbished, but that is not scheduled to happen until next year. It would have to wait until they have somewhere to move it TO, if you know what I mean. They are going to put a TS restaurant on the first floor, and I would guess it's possible that if the construction on the 4th floor was going to be disruptive, then they might move the Character breakfast down there. I doubt if they would do a character dinner though, based on the descriptions of the new restaurant that I've seen. Nothing has been announced in any of the refurbishment updates though, so I wouldn't worry yet. If you are traveling in the next six months or so, you should be OK with things the way they are. (although Disney has been known to move dates around a bit).

As far as I know, there are no immediate plans to close or relocate Chef Mickey's. I would imagine, however, that once construction begins on the new quick service area where the Concourse Steakhouse is now, some kind of provision will have to be made. Nobody wants to eat a meal in a construction zone, but Chef Mickey's is too lucrative and popular to shut down. My best guess is that when the time comes, Chef Mickey's will be temporarily relocated to the convention floor for the duration of the construction. The new restaurant in the present Fiesta Fun Center will be open by then, so Chef Mickey's wouldn't be able to move there. The convention floor is the only logical place to put Chef Mickey's, if they do indeed temporarily relocate it.

This is purely speculation and educated guesses based on the information I've seen for the restaurant rehab/shift and my knowledge of the Contemporary itself.

I don't have any recent photos, but it's pretty much what you see from the monorail or within the concourse: a lot of tables, a buffet, and characters. The food is yummy at both breakfast and dinner and is worth at least one ADR during your trip (we just did 1 breakfast and 3 dinners on our last trip).

Thanks for that, only ever seeing the concourse from the monorail tho, didn't get the best view.

The Concourse Steakhouse is closing.

Chef Mickeys is not.

I had originally heard that CM was going to expand into that area, but that isn't what the current plans seem to be. Probably a good thing, last week was the worst meal at Chef Mickeys that I've ever had for dinner - and I've gone for over 10 years. The salad bar was pretty bare.

Chef Mickeys would make too much money for Disney to close - and they sell photos now (which is a lot more profit too).
