Chef Mickey's & Hollywood & Vine

We were in Disney this past week and ate at both Chef Mickey's and Hollywood & Vine.

We went to Chef Mickey's on our 3-year-old son's birthday. Hollywood & Vine was a very last minute (day of) addition to our trip. My wife's aunt, who works for Disney, scheduled it.

Anyway, based on the reviews all over these boards, I was not expecting to enjoy the food quality at either establishment. Well, I just wanted to let anyone who is on the fence about eating at either of these places know that we were very pleasantly surprised. We thought the food was extremely tasty, the options plentiful, and the buffets themselves clean.

If you are considering either, I wouldn't let all the negative reviews scare you away.

I find restaurant reviews any place you find them on-line tend to be all over the map and not particularly helpful. Some people complain about trivial things (like they ran out of bread sticks) and then bash the entire meal. You will also get as many to say things like 'service too slow' as 'service too fast'. We also ate at Chef Mickey's during our recent Disney trip and everyone enjoyed it. Others bash a place since it was buffet style and they don't care for that.....LOL.

Everyone may have differing expectations about a restaurant and unless you know their preferences, reviews from people you don't know aren't particularly helpful. You also tend to find more people complaining about various aspects of the meal. I think those with an issue are more likely to post their complaints vs. someone who enjoyed the meal and doesn't bother to post yet another good review if there are already many available.

We've eaten at Chef Mickey's several times (breakfast and dinner), and each time was really great! I'm typically not a fan of buffets, but the quality and selection of Chef Mickey's was pretty stellar.

Hollywood and Vine is a must do for my kids and I every trip we love it.

We go for the character interaction and have never been disappointed there. I equate Chef Mickey's food to Golden Corral they are about the same. My biggest complaint about Hollywood & Vine was not the food it was the service or the lack there of.

I enjoy the occasional Golden Corral but you clearly have a much better local Golden Corral than we do if yours are even in the same league as Chef Mickey's on its worst day.
