We are taking our son on his first Disney trip, staying at AKL with grandparents and uncle and aunt, we have reservations for Chef Mickey's dinner buffet in the Contemporary and wanted to know if it is worth it?

Any thoughts?

The food is good, however the best part is the fun atmosphere and the interaction with the characters. We took out godson there for his birthday--they gave him a special birthday pin, cupcake and placemat. The characters all gave him special attention and the whole restaurant twirled their napkins to celebrate when "a special birthday" was announced. It was such a great memory!

It is our kids favorite place to eat at WDW. The character interaction is awesome. Mickey, Minnie, Chip & Dale walk around to the tables, but Goofey, Donald & Pluto are in the middle of the restaurant and the kids can have as much interaction as they like.

Every so often the characters play a song and everyone holds their napkins up and swing them in a circle. The food is very good too. Awesome key lime pie! YUMMY!

The food is good, not great. Large selection with a great dessert bar. It is a MUST visit for us. Like anything at Disney it is not cheap, but compared to a $3 dollar bottle of water the price is not that bad.

We think that Chef Mickey's breakfast is much better than dinner.

My kids had a great time but I noticed some shyer kids were not as thrilled. It is pretty loud. Very much like a party.

We enjoyed it, although it was a little hectic at times. We kind of hurried through the dinner so as not to miss the charactors...DD had her autograph Mickey & Minnie along for autographs! We missed Mickey (we were up getting food) but they were good about having him come back through for her. She was up dancing around waving her napkin. Great pictures (I ran out of film and had to run out to a gift shop for some). I thought the food was really good, just a little hectic to fully enjoy it. It is a nice thing to do and if you get in later, it's a nice Welcome to Disney. I think it is definately worth doing!

I have just made ps for Chef Mickeys for breakfast when we visiit WDW in October. We have eaten there for both breakfast and dinner, breakfast is our favourite. It can be very noisy and busy but we have always enjoyed the food and the service has always been wonderful.

We ate at Chef Mickey's a few weeks ago, and I thought the food was just okay. There weren't as many selections as I'd expected: good salad bar, two veggie dishes, one fish/pasta dish, a chicken dish, a beef dish, and roast beef. The deserts were key lime pie, brownies, and soft-serve ice cream. The quality of all the food was average -- just average. The presentation was somewhat lacking. Frankly, for $25/person I expected more in the way of food.

The character interaction, however, was wonderful! Goofy was the best. He sat at a chair next to us and stomped his foot to get the waiter's attention. He pretended to drink a child's drink (the other family was away visiting the buffet, and my daughters asked in whispered voices whether they should tell the little girl that Goofy'd been drinking from her cup). Mickey, Minnie, Chip, and Dale were also great. Donald, who was the greeter that night, was wonderful too. At one point I took my youngest (age 5) out to use the restroom. We ran into Donald, and they danced. She still hasn't told her Daddy and sister about dancing with Donald (it's our secret), but she has a big soft spot for Donald now!

Would I go back? Probably -- the kiddos loved it. Perhaps we'll try breakfast next time.

I read your post to my husband he said "HE** Yeah" Our 6 year old son loves it there. We go every time we go to Disney and we go at least 3 times a year. The character interaction is priceless and the food is good. We have never had a bad meal. It always has been a bit cold inside so I bring a sweater or long sleeve shirt. It is noisy but hey, we are there to have a good time and after all you are on vacation. Have an awesome time at Chef Mickeys and enjoy being with your family. Forget about the world outside the gates.

Absolutley take him for his very first trip to Disney!!! We just got back from our very first Disney Trip with our two daughters ages 4 and 8. We arrived on Fathers Day and did not go to a Park but we had Chef Mickeys PS for 5:30 PM for Dinner. This was fabulous as a start to our trip! The character interaction is great. IT is a little loud, kind of like a party, but the kids loved it. The food is as good as you will get at Disney, the dessert buffet is the best we had anywhere! There is even a buffet just for the kids, at their level. Do not get rushed. Take your time and stay as long as your like. the characters keep coming around and they have a little celebration dance about every 15 minutes. We also did Crystal Palace in MK for Dinner, this is Pooh and the gang, it was ok but not as good as Chef Mickeys and we did the Epcot Storybook Princess Breakfast which was just the BEST!!!..

We always start our trips with dinner at Chef Mickey's also and find that it puts us in a Disney mood and sets the tone for the trip! Not only do my neice and nephew (5 1/2 year old twins) love it but the grownups as well. Have a great time!

On Disney Unwraped they showed much more of a selection of foods then is listed on the menu at this site or wdwig.com On the show Chef Mickey breakfast had (I think) some type of cookie pizza, or real pizza, or did I mix something with another Character meal ?
I know my DD4 would love eithe one, hoping I remembered right.

Thank you everyone so much! I am so excited to go, we leave in 12 days, and the day after we get there we have reservations for Chef's Mickey's dinner.

Thank you for all your input. Helped out a lot!

AuntMinnie, it is a sort of pizza and it is at Chef Mickey's for breakfast. It is a cookie crust with peanut butter on top then marshmallows and I think jam. There is another thread where someone said they tried it and enjoyed it.
