Chef Art Smith Homecomin reservation, Hoop de doo revue, should I change...?

So I booked my dining at the 180 day mark. Planned the trip, and we're going to be there in about 2.5 weeks. I realized something the other day and now I can't figure out how I feel about it/what I should do..

We planned a down day at the resort with the idea we'd go to Disney Springs for dinner. I booked Homecomin for the down day. For the following day we booked the Hoopde doo revue. We did it last year and we loved the show. The food was really good as well, particularly the fried chicken, sides and strawbrry short cake... ribs were ehh...

It didn't really occur to me when I booked Homecomin that I had 2 dinners booked back to back with fried chicken being the main draw. now I'm not sure I should go to Homecomin... any thoughts? Are the other dishes big draws at Homecomin?

We can't change Hoop de doo and I'm definitely having chicken there. I can change Homecomin, not sure to what though....
We're currently eating at Yak and Yeti, Rose and Crown, Boma, BOG, Hoop de doo and Homecomin.

Its a non park day and we're staying at AKL. any ideas? We're a group of 6, My family and my parents, ages 37,36, 6, 2, 75, 72

a few that are out... Sanna, Jiko, Bongos. We're not big on character meals (even if we could book this late)

I considered Ranglin Road due to it being a good time (I think, I haven't been), not sure what else are good options, I'm only 2 weeks out.

I would probably change it, only because there are so many great options at DS that I wouldn't want to eat fried chicken twice in a row. That said, I haven't been to Homecomin so there may be some other great menu options to choose from.

If you are planning on going to DS, perhaps try the Boathouse - we’ve loved it every time we’ve gone.

Personally I’d be fine eating fried chicken two nights in a row!

Living in New England, good fried chicken is always a draw! That said, I probably would switch to Boathouse. Raglan Road is good, but very noisy. Of course, there are lots of great places at DS, and for most, you can get an ADR fairly close to your trip. Enjoy!

I have both of those restaurants booked, too, but not back to back.
Look at allears.net to check out their great restaurant menu's page. I believe I read of many other options at Art Smith's Homecoming besides chicken. I want the chicken, but I was tempted by some of the other offerings, too, but don't remember what they are. I wouldn't hesitate going to homecoming at all. It should be easy to skip the chicken and try something else.
2 chicken type dinners like those at Whoopeedo, and homecoming wouldn't bother me at all,, but I love chicken.

For the Boathouse... we have some non-fish eaters here, in fact most except me and my wife... so I'm not sure that is the silver bullet for us.
Still debating about it. Leaning more towards keeping it now.

While not one of favorites Homecomings has a large menu and while not loving it I do have to have some of those deviled eggs next trip. They are great,

I'm a North Carolinian, so I have kinda the same problem with going to Homecomin'. That style of food is what we live on so I'd rather go somewhere at Disney that is unique. How about Rick Bayless' place, Frontera Cocina? I am a huge fan of Top Chef, especially when he's on, and his line of sauces in the grocery store. Frontera is on my short list to visit on an upcoming trip.

They do have steak, chicken, and different kinds of sandwiches at the Boathouse.

The Boathouse has some great steaks. It's not strictly a seafood restaurant. It's one of the best new things to come to DS.

Here's an idea: Keep Homecoming however, order off of the appetizer menu. You can get a small chicken and biscuit app to give it a try (worth it), plus you can try something else off the menu! Or you can order apps at the bar then head somewhere else in DS to app and bar hop. With so many great options, you won't be disappointed. We were in a similar position during our last trip down, and I'm so glad we didn't give up on Homecoming. It's a cool spot, then we headed to the Boathouse for truffle fries at the outdoor bar!

We ate at Homecomin' last trip and have a reservation at the Boathouse for this trip. The Boathouse has a really big menu. Read some reviews!

Homecomin' was disappointing to us as far as the fried chicken goes, so if you keep the ADR, just don't order the fried chicken. I guess my expectations were too high. We found that the breading on the fried chicken was really thick. It was just okay, and no one would order it again. The other entrees we ordered (two different entrée salads and the shrimp and grits) were also just so so. Maybe try the barbecue? My son ordered the fish off the kids' menu, and that was actually the best entrée. It was really delicious!
I wouldn't discourage anyone from going there, but I like the idea suggested above to try a lot of appetizers. The cocktails are fantastic and oh my goodness, the deviled eggs and cheddar biscuits were so good! I wish we had tried the fried green tomatoes, and maybe the chicken and biscuits are better executed than the fried chicken entrée.

I think you'll end up enjoying whichever one you go to, and as others have said, there are lots of great choices in Disney Springs.

The chicken tortilla soup was good as well as the guacamole; nice way to start a meal. It's when we received our main courses that disappointment set in. I had carne asada, the man ordered the mushroom torta and DGD opted for grilled chicken tacos. Nothing was really seasoned properly and even the man who will eat most anything noticed it. The only part of my dish that was excellent was the plantinos. We ordered sorbet for dessert and two holiday specials neither of which were finished; the sorbet was though, LOL. Me thinks I need to go to Chicago for a true Rick Bayless experience.

Oh no! This place isn't mentioned much in reviews and ADRs are wide open, which is a bad sign. I hope the management can pull it together and make it great. There are too many other good choices for Rick's place to be this way and make it.
