Cheese board as a Dessert

I notice that most restuarants have the cheese listed as an appetiser but on the dining plan can you order the cheese plate as your dessert ?

There is no consistent answer to this. The only consistent answer to questions like this is that you can not get an appetizer as a dessert, but when it comes to cheese platters, sometimes restaurants will allow you to order cheese for dessert at dessert time, never as an appetizer at the beginning of the meal. There's no harm in asking, especially if you have dietary issues such as diabetes and can't medically handle dessert every meal, but do be prepared to be told no.

In October, the cheese plate at California Grill could be ordered either as an appetizer or a dessert.

The Disney owned restaurants are more likely to allow a cheese plate to be ordered at dessert time. You can't substitute an appetizer for a dessert, however, so you won't be able to order it as a starter on the regular DDP.

At the non-Disney owned restaurants it will be less likely that you can order the cheese plate as a dessert since it is not on the dessert section of the menu. Their reimbursement from Disney for the dining plan is based on items being ordered from the appropriate sections of the menu.

If you have a dietary restriction and cannot eat any of the desserts on the menu, restaurants will offer fruit or other non-sugar options.

at all of the signature restaurants we have been to, there was some sort of cheese platter on the dessert menu. Most of them also had a cheese platter on the appetizer menu.

If you're on the regular dining plan, it would take 2 credits to eat at the signature places...no appetizer just entree, beverage & dessert. But they will let you order the cheese platter because it is on the actual dessert menu. If you're on the deluxe meal plan, you get an appetizer, too...so you could get the cheese platter for both appetizer and dessert.

Just a heads-up on the cheese platters...it's tiny samples of 4-5 cheeses with little dabs of sauce and very small crackers or breads. Not big enough for an entree, not big enough to share really. Just so you know what you're getting!
