My DW's water broke in
Walmart with our second DD, Sydney. I was at home sick because I had caught my older DD, Maddy's stomach virus the night before. I was up nearly the entire night ralphing, until it mercifully quit at about 5 AM. I finally got to sleep then. My DW went out shopping early the next morning while I slept on the couch. She got me a bunch of Gatorade, etc. I was still lying on the couch at about noon the next day, trying not to be nauseous again, when DW got home from Walmart. She told me to get up and take a shower, since her water had broken. I said "No (expletive) way." "Way," she responded. So I got up and took a quick shower and drove us to the hospital. Fortunately, Sydney was born about 12 hours later, at about midnight or so. I was on a cot next to DW's birthing bed. I would lie down between contractions, and then when a contraction would hit, I'd get up real quick and do the hand-holding "You're doing great" nonsense. When the contraction would pass, I'd lie right back down again. It had to look pretty comical to anyone working that floor that night. I actually managed to make my wife's delivery of our second DD all about me. That was quite an accomplishment, even for the most self-centered of people. I was so proud of myself.
Every time I came near Sydney the first couple of days of her life, I had to wear a surgical mask. Somehow she didn't catch the bug, though, and never got sick until she was 6 MO or so.
Well, there's our water-break-in-the-supermarket story.
