Checking out before checkout date?

We currently have three nights booked and we may need to checkout after the second night. I thought about just booking the third night at a cheaper hotel offsite but Universal says there is no availability for just the two nights, which did not make any sense to me because I already have the reservation, so they have room for me.

Anyway, what does Universal do if a guest needs to checkout before the actual checkout date?
 
I would just call and ask but I think you will still get charged for the night you aren't there.
 
That is one thing I hate about Loews reservations! You can add as many nights to your reservation as you like. But try to shorten your stay and its "sorry, there is no availability".

I really don't think there is anyway around it. Have you checked for your dates lately (online) ? Sometimes they open rooms back up. And I agree with pixeegrl, they will just charge you for the full 3 night reservation. If you just check out, they cant really rent your room that night. KWIM?
