become my new obsession. I know DVC says they'll send you an email conformation when it comes through (think positive), but the new members website makes it so easy to just peek and see.

Do they fill waitlists the second your requested room is available, or at the end of the day when the system "refreshes" (if thats the right word)

My waitlist for May 24 BWV standard came through today! Got the e-mail but couldn't open my mail. Grrr. So I went to Members Site and my point balance reflects that the waitlist came through. Yay!!

NOW what am I gonna do? I guess I'll find something else to obsess about.

Exactly how waitlists get filled is a mystery. It is often reported here that someone finds the exact nights they are waitlisted for available to be booked online.

The way I understand it, if you are waitlisted for say 3 nights the waitlist will try to fill those 3 nights only, not individually. If you find one or two of those nights available on-line you can call MS and book them and then they will create another waitlist for the remaining nights. Meaning you will fall to the bottom of the waitlist. I suppose you can do this all on-line too.

I have done this numerous times, waitlisting multiple nights and finding individual dates available and booking them. MS will automatically link them together as they fill in.

I was waitlisted for a 2BR at HHI for Easter Sunday. I had a cash reservation booked as a back-up so I wasn't worried about being homeless. Since I'd called at 11am on the day my 7-month window opened and there was no availability, I gave up hope. I own at HHI and so I was able to go online in the preceding weeks to see that there were 2BR's available but since I had to use 7 AKV points, I had to wait. I basically forgot that I'd waitlisted that night until I looked at the member site one afternoon. I about had a stroke because I was missing 25 points from my account! We only had 100 available so I briefly panicked...then I remembered the waitlist! Yup, it came through. I got an e-mail with the updated reservation information about a week later. I did have to call and change it, though, because they used 25 of my current AKV points without borrowing my remaining 18 HHI points first. When I did the waitlist, I had them note that I wanted the points borrowed first, then use the current ones, but they didn't follow that instruction. No big deal...it was easily fixed.

Yes and that's a problem for those with a waitlist for those same nights who aren't checking online to see if any (or possibly all) of their nights have popped up. We've had reports where all of the nights someone needed for their waitlist were available online and yet, the waitlist had not filled.

As we understand it, the waitlist works on both an "all or nothing" and a "first match" basis. Let's say I'm ahead of you on the list and need Dec 2-9 while you are waiting for Dec 5 & 6 and then someone cancels Dec 4, 5 & 6. When the waitlist runs, I won't get any of those nights because they don't completely fill my request. It moves on until it gets to your request. Since it's a complete match you get the two nights you need.

tjkraz posted a theory about this that sounded logical to me. If the waitlist process runs immediately after every cancellation, it puts those needing the greatest number of nights at risk of never getting their waitlist filled. Therefore, MS waits and runs the software at the end of the day* so that the maximum number of cancelled nights are in the pool. The problem is that it appears that the system makes the cancelled nights available online right away. While we wait for the waitlist software to be run, someone can grab the nights we need and neither of us gets them.

* ETA - I should not have stated that the waitlist process is only run at the end of the day. I don't think we know when it is run or how often it is run, only that waitlists don't seem to fill in real time as cancellations occur.

This happened to us on our last trip. I waitlisted an entire week but it never came through.

We had done one or two before that came through but it seems harder to happen. We currently have one for a one night.

Yes it is much more productive to check actual availability, especially if you can pick up the reservation a piece at a time

Well I checked today and you couldn't imagine my surprise when it came through :cool1::cool1::cool1:. Was listed on the member site, no email from DVC yet. Six days on the waitlist not too bad. BLT here we come.:thumbsup2

Congratulations!!! Such a great feeling!!!!

Hoping to switch from pool/garden view to BW view for one night in May; spend 6 night with DGD and DS and DIL at Kidani but just HAVE to finish our trip with one night at BWV after they go home. Just one night-- checking every day...several times a day...

I will ALWAYS check waitlists now. In October we showed up at BWV and they told us we didn't have a reservation. I FREAKED OUT! I remembered that I had waitlisted at BCV though, and asked her to check there. Sure enough, our waitlist had come through, but we never got an email notifying us of that change!
