Is anyone interested in doing a pirates swap? This would be great for photos at the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, or for the Disney cruise line's Pirate party.. We can keep it to a general pirate theme..this swap would be only for elements (Quality work only please) - no papers, to keep shipping down.
Let me know if there is intrest, probably with a late due date of mid-end of Oct? Or whatever the marjority is.. i don't like having it too far off, as we risk losing people.
If there is intrest, i will post sign ups tomorrow!

Thanks!! :thumbsup2

I am interested!!! What does this mean, quality work only please? As long as someone does their best is that not enough? I don't know if I do quality work but I would hate to be left out. Also, what does no papers to keep shipping down? Again, I am very interested!

Im interested and I have the same questions as Potter.. ;)

I'm interested but I'm a little put off by that 'quality work' bit. What does that mean? I've got two due in October already though. Maybe if it was November.

I would also be interested in Pirate themed things as I have tons of photos from a Pirate party for my son. You'll be recieving some of my elements from the Resort Swap, so it'll be your call if I have quality work or not.

Am interested also, but have the same questions as the others.

I'd be interested in doing the swap.
Here's my definition of quality work: Doing more than just adhering one piece of paper to another and putting a sticker on it. I think we are all capable of doing more than that. It seems like more a matter of how much time and energy we put into the swaps, rather than the amout of skill a person has.

Hi everyone, thank you Sharon.. That is exactly what i mean by "Quality work".. Sorry for not explaining that better!
For instance, i dont want to spend hours on a swap (and $$) and have someone sign up and just throw some stickers on paper and call it a day.. KWIM??
That's all. I am sure we are ALL capable of quality.. it just takes a commitment of time. All i ask is that everyone does their best work.. something that you woudl be proud to use in your book.
As for no paper to keep shipping down, i mean, we wont be doing "page kits" this time.. just elements.. that's all. no biggie! LOL
Sooooo.. with all that hopefully explained, i will start a thread for sign ups.. how about late october?

Thanks :) When are sign ups.lol..

*runs back to the scrapbook wagon*

See these are good because the due dates are not on top of one another so it's workable.

Can I ask a stupid question? Maybe I'm a little dense, but isn't scrapbooking basically paper? I just completed a swap. It took me a long time to cut out my pieces with my Cuzzle and than adhere everything to make the element. So the element has to have something metalic on it, like a brad or eyelet to make it quality? I really don't care for bulky items in my scrapbooks.

I guess I just need it clarified what things should be going on elements.

Just wondering ...

I don't think elements need bulky items to make them "quality". I think it's a matter of combining papers, patterns, and colors in a creative way.

Right again Sharon..lol. It's about quality.. I think there are different varietys of scrappers, (those who like bulky and those who do not..) However, i have seen lots of bulky items that look thrown together, with glue showing .. etc.. just because it is bulky, doesn't make it quality. It is about craftmanship, and taking pride in your work. For instance, in a swap i am doing - i am working on a library pocket, which is basically paper, but it is the way i am taking the time to layer, embellish with inks/ stamps.. and really make a nice piece.
For instance, i am not into a title with simply sticker letters stuck to a piece of cardstock and be done with it.. I want a little more time and effort into my books.. But, that is me. Everyone is different.. All i ask for is quality work. Be creative, learn a new technique if you want to, but just do your best work.. There is so much you can do with flat papers.. Bulk does NOT equal good work.

I think what the OP means (at least what I've seen in other swaps) by no paper- is no matching cardstock or patterned paper to make a kit JUST the elements (photo mats, journal boxes, whatever).

And as for "quality"- having had the misfortune of swapping with one REALLY bad scrapper on another board- her stuff had jagged edges, hand lettered misspelled words, obvious streaks of glue. So NOT doing those things is quality work :)

Is their room in "quality work" for simplicity?

For example, in one of my swaps my journal box is just just 3 pieces of paper stuck together, and a simple punch (not a sticker but similar). My other piece is a much more elaborate paper piecing. I went simple with the box, because IMO too many elaborate elements makes for a very busy page and takes the focus off the pictures.

Hope, i think you are right to some extent.. Simple is ok.. But, nicely done simple. No glue marks, etc.. like the above poster said..

However, i think for this swap, i would like to see some elements that are just a step up from "simple". I want us to challange ourselves.. kwim? That is why i chose a due date far in advance..

Ya know this is a great topic. I will be the first to say I am not the worlds greatest scrapper. BUT. I do my best. I enjoy the swaps and I always worry about how ppl will like the items I make. But I just keep telling myself I have done my best. I have recently been doing alot of *looking* and *scraplifting* as i see something I like I figure I can always *alter* it to go with what I am doing. because I am not all that good at coming up with things on my own. I figure that will come in time.

Thanks. I didn't mean to be dense.

I do all kinds of crafts and I do most things very well. The couple of swaps that I have done I have run my elements by my friend who is a CMC and she says that my things are right on track with good workmanship. Maybe "Workmanship" is a better term than "Quality". Good workmanship always takes time.

This would be a subjective opinion. What you may like, may not appeal to me. What one person sees as quality may not be up to other's standards.

I'd probably go with the fancier stuff for the swaps and save the simpler stuff to add as needed in my own book if the page starts to look too busy. I'd rather get "fancy" stuff and see other people's techniques and make the "simple" filler stuff myself.
