Checking in

Our flight arrives at 10 am and I was going to take a taxi with a stop over to pick up some groceries/adult beverages before heading to HRH. When I thought about this further, I don't think check in is until 4 pm so I am wondering what I will do with the groceries until our room is ready?

Would it be better to wait until our room is ready and then take a taxi from HRH and then pick up what we need? Any idea how far a grocery store is from Universal and how late stores are typically open on a Sunday night in the area?

Any suggestions!

It might be worth a call to HRH to see if they have refrigerated storage - I know Disney doesn because we use it every year. There is a Publix food store within a mile or so of Universal. You would go out to Kirkman Road (main entrance) turn left and it will be down on the left in a shopping plaza. We go there after we check-out of Universal on our way to checking into Disney.

On your grocery stop, buy a cheap styrofoam cooler (beer or bottled water section) for about $5 and some ice at the store.

When you get to the hotel, put your stuff and ice in the cooler and have them hold it with your luggage.

Then you can refill the cooler w/ ice from the ice machine.

That is a great idea but I think we will have several bags of food items as well as a cooler. I don't know if the hotel can be responsible to hold all of it until our room is available several hours later. Can they?

They will hold all your stuff in the bellhop luggage room until your room is ready. You can also use it for when you check out. We do this to go to the parks for a few hours on our last day.

We ALWAYS have a styrofoam cooler, ice, beers and SEVERAL bags of groceries. They hold it ALL! They bring a luggage dolly out to your car and load everything onto that...and they hold a LOT! If the grocery bags are plastic, they will probably hang them on the luggage cart. Don't worry....really...it'll be fine.

Wow!

This makes me relax a little! I didn't want our grocery bags to be lost and I didn't want to ask the hotel to hold them for us this if this was not the norm. In addition my kids will be happy that I will not have to pull them away from the parks just to get what I need later in the day.

You bet...We are not the only ones checking in w/ tons of food. Once I saw a car pull up w/ about 4 cases of soda Yep...luggage cart took it all. Soda cases, grocery bags, cooler, luggage, etc....

I think you'll be surprised how easy-flowing they run their operations there.

When we go for our summer trips (extended stays), we have our luggage, 2 36 packs of sodas, 2 36 cases of water, lots of boxes of snacks, and a big rolling cooler full of stuff. They have never given us a problem and the money you save is great.
