Hi All,

We have only ever flown with VA,
We have found flights cheaper with BA for our Feb 2010 trip, do they offer a service similar to the DTD check in on the morning of your return flight?

If not, how much time do you have to be at the airport before the flight?

When we flew with VA, we did not see the departure lounge where you check your bags in, as they were dropped off in the morning, is it an easy process to find the departure terminal once you have returned your car?

We really like the DTD VA check in procedure and are tempted to pay that bit extra to fly with VA just to use this, or are we being daft and should save the £££, as it easy to check in at the airport?

thanks as ever

BA don't offer anything like the DTD check in - only options are to check in at the airport (I assume 3 hrs prior to flight) or to do online check in.

Don't forget that the DTD check in is a VH facility and is only free to VH customers - if you have bought flights direct from VA or any other source then you will have to pay to use the facility - can't remember the price but I am sure someone will come along that knows

It is easy to get to the departure area - when you drop off the car, you enter the terminal and just get in the lift and follow the signs. The car hire drop off locations are located near to the departure areas for ease of access.

When I did it last year it was $10 per person unless you are in upper class when it is free.

Is it best to pay €10 PP or just check in 3 hours before?

We used the service and thought it was good, apart from being told by the rep that it opened at 7:30am, got there for half 7 and it was 8:30, didnt want to waste an hour on the last day of paradise!!!!!

i'm going to pay $10 this year, it was a nightmare last year checking in at airport for a flight to miami so i would rather check in at dtd and then turn up later at the airport

It depends on how full your flight is, as the "better choice" of seats will go at DTD before you get to the airport

I would recommend online check-in. We've done this the last 2 years and it's been great for us: They release more seats and we've always managed to either get our pre-selected seats or find better ones. Once you get to the airport it's just a case of dropping your bags and clearing security, no worries about being there earlier than intended as you have your seats sorted :) I found DTD check-in a bit pointless for us and i'd never pay for it, though I know others find it useful.
