Checking in online and using dining credits

I have looked up this question and see many different answers, so I am hoping that someone with experience has some up to date answers. If I do online check in can we use our magic bands to pay for food without stopping at the resort first?

YES you can. As long as the online process is "completed". I made the mjstake of not completing it and ended up charging to the room. This was AFTER my first stay of a 2 resort split stay. I did go to the resort desk that evening and they were able to correct everything.
We also had a Dining Plan.

Yes. I do every trip. We always take first flight of the morning and arrive at Disney by 10:30am. We drop our car at our resort parking lot and take Disney transportation to either MK if were at a MK resort, or Epcot if were at an Epcot resort for lunch (Plaza or Via Napoli!, always an 11:30am ressie). Never step foot inside the resort until we get a text stating our room is ready. We then go to the resort, unpack, go for a swim, shower, dress and head to the Spirit of Aloha. Its a tradition!

I'm hoping we don't have to go through the hassle of reversing charges. Our first meal is our Cali Grill brunch. I'm not looking forward to $400 being charged to my room right off the bat.

After online check in, (the day your stay begins), your credits should be loaded into your MDE account. It should be fairly easy for you to check.
