We currently have a 4 night stay at GF for June. We may only decide to stay 3 nights. I know we wont wait until the last minute to decide.... But curious- how "late" can you decide to shorten your stay without paying a fee. In other words at check in, if we decide we want to shorten our stay to 3 nights would we be charged a fee?

Depends . Did you book a package or room only?

Disney has cracked down on shortening Resort stays to try to minimize “Orphan nights”. If you try to do this prior to checkin the new total nights must be available to book. So in your case 3 nights must be available. If not it won’t let you change.
I don’t know if you can do it at checkin or not. It is possible that they will charge you for the 4 full nights.

Thanks everyone for the info. So what is an “orphan night”?? I have heard of throwaway rooms... but that is one i don’t know.

Alot depends on the "reason" if you have good reason to leave a day early...you probably won't incur a fee. Just do this before checkout time on the 4th day. (its what 11 am) cant recall. We had to leave early last May.. We stayed 7 nights instead of 8 planned. We decided to goto Canaveral for a day/night. We only had a 7 day ticket so nothing lost on the parks side.Just talk to a supervisor at the desk. or PM me. ill also add that early May is incredibly not busy....
That makes a difference.

I would call and see if they can remove the night before the 5 day cancellation period. They are able to override the rule on dropping nights, sometimes they will and sometimes they won't.
