check in with crutches

Hey. I've asked this on the main board but thought the question might be more relevant to you guys. I'm just off crutches (again) after i reinjured my foot, but thinking of taking them with me just in case. We're going on monday and i haven't got any sort of letter saying i'm fit to fly with no way of getting one. I know i'm stupid! Has anyone recently travelled with crutches and if so what do the check in people say?

I'm pretty sure it'll be fine, but it's stressing out my dad. We're flying virgin by the way so any specific info to put us at ease would be great! Thanks

thanks miffy2003. I'm looking into picking some up when we get there to avoid the whole check in stress. I'll need them again when i have surgery in october so it wouldn't be a total waste of money. I was just hunting for someone with similar experiences. I'm sure it'll be fine, don't see why it would be an issue personally!

I took crutches several years ago when i had an operation on my knee. I did not need them to walk, but due to the nature of the holiday, i thought i best take them just in case. i did not need a letter, i did have a letter but this was for extra legroom.

All we did was tape the crutches together and hand them over with the cases, no questions asked.

I have taken crutches on my last two holidays and will be taking them on the next. I am waiting for a knee replacement and my condition and pain varies each day.

I suggest that if you are going from Gatwick you contact Virgin Special Assistance as soon as possible. They will arrange for you to be taken from the departure lounge to the Virgin gate. Trust me, you will need it - it's so far you feel that you're halfway to Orlando when you get there. The transport could be a wheelchair or an electric car carrying others (if they are not busy they'll take your family at the same time as you).

When you get to Orlando, I have found that despite nine hours of sitting, I do not need assistance there because everything is more compact and each jouney you make in the airport is shorter.

I have never taken a letter from my GP and it has never been requested.
