we'll be staying at AK CL studio for the first half of our trip then switching to a 2bdrm savannah view when my brothers arrive a week later.

that day they will be taking odd out to Universal so we'll be there with ydd. we figured we'd pack up and put the luggage with bellhop check out and head over to either DTD or Boardwalk for shopping and lunch.

when we check out of CL can we check into the 2bdrm even if it isn't ready yet - can we at least to the check in process at the same time and get our room later when we return from DTD?

we've only changed rooms once before and our room happened to be ready when we got to OKW so it wasn't an issue.

if check out time is 11am (in January) is there a chance we can get a room right away?

we've never had a problem getting into a room before and we usually arrive around noonish so i'm wondering if an hour makes a difference

Yes you can! You can check in anytime that day really. They just might not be ready for you.

We checked in to Bay Lake after leaving AKL at 9:00am. We just headed into the magic kingdom and called and checked later for our room number.

I have never had a problem checking in early, usually they have the room available. I have gotten a room as early as 9am, it all depends on when the previous guest checks out.

It's possible, but it can't be guaranteed and it can still end up being after 4pm (pixiedust: that it's earlier rather than later for you)

Do the check in process for part 2 of your stay early on that day;
you do not have to be checked out of your first DVC room before you check in for next reservation; we've done this many times, DH goes to desk 7:30- 8am to complete check in process and then we check out of first reservation by 11am.

Best wishes, hope it all works out :goodvibes

As mentioned you can check-in to the 2nd room even before you check-out of the 1st one. They should go ahead and give you room keys even if the new room isn't ready and you now have the option of having the room number automatically texted to you when it is ready.

does anyone know if the DVC building is now all DVC. have the "DVC" rooms in the first building been given back to cash rooms?

just wondering if we are in club level one week and change to a 2bdrm savannah view the next - would we have to change buildings too?

would make it easier to move if we're at least in the same building.

No, the '1st building' (which is Jambo - AKL Resort) still has DVC villas, they were not given back to the Resort when Kidani Village opened. There are a total of 134 DVC villas located in Jambo House but I don't know the break down of how many are studios, 1 bedroom villas etc.

All DVC concierge level villas are located in Jambo House as well as some value, standard & savanna view villas.
Kidani Village will have standard & savanna view villas but no concierge or value view villas are located there.

When reservations are made using DVC points either building can be requested providing that the particular villa/view wanted is available; if it is then it will be booked accordingly, ie 2 bedroom/savanna view/Jambo House.

:)

For OP: check in is allowed beginning at 7 a.m. (and even as early as 6 if you can find someone at front desk to do it earlier while official earliest time is 7). As to whether you will actually get room by 11 when you do the turnover day check-in, the chances are probably 50/50 (that has generally been my success rate in getting room before 4 at AKV).
