If you make a specific room request, does the time you check in have any impact on whether you will actually get that request?

Put differently, if I make a room request, get assigned to a room in accordance with that request, but then don't check in until late in the day, will they give "my" room away to someone else?

I'd also be interested in knowing this. This might determine whether or not I add on another night to our reservation. I don't want to check in late and get a sucky room because all of the good ones have already been given away! :sad2:

On our last two trips we arrived at the resort around 9 pm. For the first one at AKL we pretty much got exactly what we had requested. The savannah we had requested, a room with bunk beds ( at the time this was not a separate room level ) and even the floor we wanted. The next time at the contemporary, we pretty much got nothing we wanted. We were in the garden wing building and did not get a renovated room, did not get a first floor room, did get a very nice view from the room though. We go at a busy time of year, April school break. The time at the contemporary it was also Easter, at the AKL it was just the new england spring break, but still very busy. Not sure if this helps, just my experience.

When we went in Sept. 2006 to POP we did not arrive until 1:00 AM. They upgraded us to a preferred room! :thumbsup2

They could if someone wants a different room than what they were assigned when they checked in.

It really depends on how full the resort is, the availability of rooms, and the type of request. If it is a slow time you will probably get your request. For instance, if they have already given out all the Savannah view 3rd floor rooms next to the stairs by the time you get there and none are open for your dates, you are stuck with what they assign you.

I have had 2 completely different experiences. Both times we checked in after our Disney Cruise we checked in early (about 9ish) and got great rooms, one was when we checked in to Beach Club and had asked for a full balcony and the lovely lady at checkout changed our room to an amazing room with a full balcony just up the stairs from the lobby and the other time was when we were upgraded at AKL from concierge room to a suite! However the one time we checked in really late (around 10pm) at the Poly we were given an amazing GVC room too!!!

The only time I checked in late (after 6:00PM) I had a room at the A/S Movies, guaranteed no smoking for medical reasons. When I checked in, there were no more non-smoking rooms left. They told us we would have to take a smoking room or they would move us to the A/S Sports. No matter how much we argued we got moved to the A/S Sports. We had our 6 year old grandson with us and he was so disappointed. He has astma, so we couldn't stay in a smoking room. When we got home I complained, but it did no good. My hubby was a CM for the Disney company (not WDW) and we had a discounted room. When WDW called me about my complaint the CM pretty much say "afterall you get what you pay for." I'll remember this line forever. Normally we were always treated just like any other guest and sometimes got average rooms, sometimes great rooms. But when traveling now and staying in a discounted room (AP--hubby is no longer a CM) I always try to checkin first thing, normally before lunch. My room is seldom ready, but that's OK. :sad2:

Well, it depends on what your requests are. And it depends on your idea of what "sucky" means. If you requested a first floor room but there's not one available and you are put on the third floor, does that make it sucky? Will your room be sucky if it's not in the building that you requested but the next one over?

We;ve only had one room requet problem ever. With over 50 trips. That was back when the rooms were still smoking/non-smoking. We checked in at Pop Century in the late afternoon and were told no non-smoking rooms were left. That was totally unacceptable to us and we were going to go offsite. We were given a preferred room instead. We did not like that room at all. Too close to the food court and all the noise. So, we got what we wanted and had an upgrade and ended up having a "sucky" room for us.
