Check in at DLR resort hotels is now after 4pm and amenities only available until 6pm on departure day...

LOL. My July reservation for the Grand says this:

RESORT CHECK-IN/CHECK-OUT
Check-in time is after 3 p.m. and check-out time is before 11 a.m. During peak periods, check-in may be delayed.

That's a new one..."during peak periods, check in may be delayed."

Actually not a new one. Don't ask why but I have a folder saved with all the trips we have taken and all the reservation emails. I looked back to one in 2018 and 2019 and it said just that. But check-in was actually 4 pm, not 3pm back then.

Maybe a related question regarding "amenity" availability. Can you book an "all day" pool cabana on your check in day? We are considering this, as my friend's flight arrives at 9:30am and we were planning a pool afternoon anyway (we won't head into the parks until after dinner), and this way we have a place to chill and relax until our room is ready. It's cheaper than adding another night to the reservation, but will they let me rent one that is set to begin, technically, before "check in time"?

Yes, we just did this on Sunday. We arrived at 10am and the cabana was waiting for us. We set-up our baby’s pack n’ play inside so he was able to keep his nap schedule even though we didn’t have a room. It worked out perfectly.

So we can still drop off our bags at bell services in the morning and come back when our room is ready right?

Was that from a travel agent or something? That is some strange language for an official Disneyland resort email confirmation.
No, from Disney direct via phone (it was through a link for a conference, though, so I don’t know if it was one of their regular agents or if conference related hotel bookings are managed by a separate department within Disney).

Quick update. I’m at the pool right now at the Grand Californian and they just made a 10 minute pool closure announcement. So it looks like they are closing the pools at 6 PM end it will be current guests only at that point.

So they are closing the whole pool and then re-opening it again? What’s the deal with this 6pm time? It sounds like a lot of effort to kick people out of the pool area during a time when there already isn’t a whole lot of guests leftover that have already checked out… Do current guests have to leave and come back?

They often close the slide pool early. Can you elaborate on what happened at 6pm? Did everyone have to leave and come back in? Did the whole pool deck close at 6?

okay sorry peeps, I had to leave at 5:55pm to get food, I came back at 6:15pm and the pool and deck definitely weren’t cleared of everyone.

I’ll make it up to y’all and ask a CM in short order what that was about, could have been slides.

Perhaps a related question, but apologies if not.

I know you can drop off luggage before check-in time, but can they also hold luggage after check-out time? Like, we check out in the morning and they store luggage while we are at the parks all day?

Thanks for the info!

Yes. Bell services works on both ends. You will have to get your bags before midnight on your check out day.

Thanks! Is this really strict, does anyone know? (It is completely reasonable, just doing some figuring.)

The parks are open to midnight on our departure day, so we were just hoping to close down the parks before grabbing our bags.

I'm sure it's not super strict, but I wouldn't push it. When you drop the bags, you can ask how late you can come back and specifically ask about past midnight.
