chEAR squad question

I am running my first half-marathon in Feb. at the Disney Princess Half. My sister-in-law is running with me so her family is coming and my mom is coming as well. Is the chEAR squad worth it? She will have a 4 year old. Does she need to buy a package for her if we decide to do it?

IMHO, the Cheer Squad is not worth the money.

I think it depends on your family. If they are able to stand and move around(ie no physical limitations), I wouldn't buy it. But if someone in my group had some physical limitations, it might be worthwhile.

As for part 2 of your question, Disney states only children 3 and under don't need to buy it. So your 4 year old would have to buy the packeage.

I just got back from running the full. Bought my DH the platinum CheAr package and he said it was a complete waste of money and would not do it again.

My wife has done the gold twice. She likes it. Its cool for the non runner to also get a shirt and have a packet pickup. But she also really gets into spectating . She probably traverses more distance than I do getting to cheering spots. We didn't do platinum.

In the years when I only do the half, I also hop around the course to cheer on hubby. His full time is about 3 1/2-4 hours and I tend to see him 3-4 times along the course easliy without buying the ChEAR package. If the runner you are following is slower, you might even be able to see them more often.

The only perk(s) that I see are a T-shirt (that holds no appeal to me) grandstand seats at the finish line (and I prefer to watch at Boardwalk or outside the Studios since there are less crowds and you can closer/better photos) and dedicated potties. For me, these"perks" simply aren't worth the money. For others, it may be.

Since this was my DH's first marathon, we bought the gold package so I could be at the finish line. We didn't have the experience to figure out how I could see him at multiple locations, so this was the simplest way for us.

If he does it again, I'm not sure I'd bother getting the package. The shirt was neat to have, but the clappers and "chair" -- I could live without them. It was nice to have an designated area though where I didn't have to push through people to see.

So if my 6 year old daughter and my MIL are going to watch me run, and I'll be in the last corral and I'll be finishing in about 2:45, what should they plan on? Is there a place for them to watch the finishers without doing the chEAR package?

There's a big bleacher section for the "general public" at the finish line...literally right next to the chEAR squad. It does get crowded at times, but there are always people coming and going to find a spot.

This is especially true if you have a slower runner!
