so this is the first time in forever that we are flying down and not driving!!! we just missed the window dates for free dining so we are doin pay as we go plus one of my kids is super picky so we thought we could just bring some food to the parks to help with costs...

so which is cheaper....grocery delivery to resort or hopping a cab to closest grocery store/walmart? we are staying at Pop Century...I looked at the online store and process seemed a little high plus delivery fee...

what should we do? :confused3

IMHO....We order from Garden Grocer instead of going to Walmart. I think between paying the cab fee or delivery fee it is about the same. Garden Grocer let you pick the brand names you want. We always order instead of picking up just because we save time. I'd rather spend our time at "vacationing" instead of shopping when the money saved is almost nil. pixiedust:

You might consider:

1.) Super Target on 192. Not too far from World Drive and it has everything.
2.) Along with your groceries get ziplock bags and a soft-sided cooler (cooler bag with straps).

The parks allow soft sided coolers (not hard coolers). You can bring a day's worth of lunch, snacks and drinks with you and save a bundle.

We learned this trick after several days of spending $60 for lunch in the parks and the kids eating a few bites and feeding the rest to the Epcot squirrels. Plus there is no waiting in restaurant lines. We eat while standing in line for a ride. Kill two birds sorta thing...

What kind of groceries are you looking for? Dry goods like granola bars and cereals can be pre-ordered through walmart.com. Pop Century will hold your packages for a week. There was no fee in Aug 2013.

I looked at Garden Grocer prices, and there is no way I would pay for brand name items at those high prices!! But, I am a bargain shopper at home, too, and since I have three kids that are good eaters, we plan our meals, lunches, and snacks around what is on sale that week!

We are flying, but renting a car, so we are stopping at Super Target on the way from the airport and buying our milk, breakfast items, snacks, drinks, and toiletries/sunscreen so we don't have to worry about packing any of that stuff.

I would probably go the Walmart.com route if we didn't have a car down there....

We just calculated all of this out too and we have decided to go with We Go Shop. We need cold items (yogurt, milk cheese etc.). The delivery fee is based on how much you order (dollar amount). A cab would be a few bucks more and then we'd have to spend the time going to get the groceries and after a 7 1/2 hour plane flight with a 2 year old I think we might be tired and will want to just have them waiting for us! I hope it works well, we have never ordered groceries before.

Before you order anything, make sure the refrigerators have been changed and that you have an actual small frig instead of a cooler in the room.

When all of the Values were outfitted with refrigerators, they were actually coolers, that do not keep anything cold, merely cool. Milk and such will spoil. I have not heard what they are putting in now that they are replacing all of them.

You didn't say how long you were staying, or if you would like to select your groceries yourself or even what kind of things you were looking to buy, so I'm not sure if this would work for you, but it works for us.

We take the Lynx bus from the TTC (MK) to the Publix on #192. Cost is $2.00 each way p.p. Mind you, we like to shop, have longer vacations than most people, and are on restrictive diets, so it is imperative to get the right groceries.

What a great idea! Thank you.

This is what I did on my last trip. I placed a water order from staples. As long as you have a staples reward card the delivery is free. I ordered 3 days prior to arrival. For food I filled one large cooler with lunch meat / cheese that were frozen along with yogurt , cottage cheese , individual sliced grapefruit , beef strips and hard boiled eggs , peanut butter and jelly , bagels. I sent this as a check in luggage on the plane. For a carry on I had a large cooler filled with ice packs and many premade sandwiches that I made with bakery bread and deli meat. Premade PB and J. A large fruit salad that I made with organic strawberries and blueberries. A bunch of bananas and cleaned grapes. Pre sliced and packed apples. This I took as a carry on.

I packed cereal , goldfish , trail mix and dry stuff in a check in suitcase.

When we got to the resort we had a quick lunch of the premade sandwiches and fruit.

I like doing the groceries this way as I am able to buy the high quality foods I am used to and pay the home price. Most the work was done at home. I hate trying to make sandwiches in a hotel room. This way they are ready and we just grab and go. The fruit is cut and cleaned so grab and go.

I saved a lot of time and money this way so when we did eat out at character meals and such the overall daily food average was low. We did buy milk at the resort too.
