Hi,
What is the cheapest you have ever gotten The Hard Rock for???Also what is the nices but yet cheapest hotel that is around Universal Studio's???thanks

The cheapest I have gotten the Hard Rock for was the APH rate back in July of 2003. It was $160 per night for 4 nights. Obviously, the prices have gone up just a little bit!!!!! I have also stayed at the Hampton Inn on Winhover Drive. It is a very nice hotel for $70.00. It also has a fantastic breakfast.

Well, back in 2001 (Jan) we got HRH for $99 a night. I couldn't believe it myself. It was a state of NC resident special. Didn't make any sense to me either.

Then in 2002 we got PBH for $155. AP rate

Then in 2003 we got RPH-concierge for $139. AP rate

Hence the phrase "in the good old days....."

We have not stayed at any other resort in that area. :wave2:

The hotel of my choosing off site is the holiday inn on universal blvd. just south of sandlake. Sometimes it is refered to as holiday inn mercado or convention center. The address is 8214 universal blvd. It is a bright yellow hotel on the right side of the street if you are going south.

This is the website to book from www.priorityclub.com this is the direct holiday inn website.

The cheapest rate that you can get is 54.50 per night plus 11.5 percent tax. The rooms are very spacious , the hotel is less than 6 years old, and each room has their own refrigarator and microwave, their is a very small pool, weight room, laundry room, gift shop, and restaurant (kids under 12 eat free), they also have a business office. Forgot to mention, there is a small shopping center behind this holtel, it has several restaurants and a grocery store behind it, this is very convenient. BIG PLUS I feel very safe in this area, this is one of the main factors for me returning to this hotel, again and again.

I have nothing but nice things to say about this hotel. you can also go to this website to check out this hotel. www.avistahotels.com

To get the 54.50 per night you must have an entertainment card/book. does not have to be orlando though. if you do not know what this is , go to www.entertainment.com

Good Ole' days is right.
I remember reading all the posts of people who would call over and over, get the $99 entertainment rate, then come on here and toot their horn.
Sadly, all good things must come to an end, and the entertainment rate is one of them, RIP.
AAA is the best deal going for most.
And yes, rates have gone thru the roof as companies book the rooms for conferances and they can charge more. The secret is out.

i wish we could go back to those days. I thought 160.00 was expensive for a room until I booked this year's trip

2001 $99.00 Garden View/Entertainment Rate HRH
2002 $142.00 Garden View/Hard Rock All Access Rate HRH

Those were the days!

2004 $229 Garden Upgrade to King Suite (Loews Plat) Regular rate HRH
2005 $242 Pool Upgrade to King Suite AAA rate HRH

I like the Crowne Plaza Universal if staying off site. They offer transportation free to the parks and the place is quite nice.

We stayed at Crowne Plaza Universal last Monday night and got the room through Hotwire at $105. We joined their Priority Club and had club lounge access from our upgraded Jr. Suite. The club had jalapeno poppers which we devoured. CPU's beds are in my top 5 for comfort.

We stayed at Crown Plaza Universal for just the first night of our stay last year. We really enjoyed it and wanted to do the same thing again but the price has gone up so much! Last year we paid about $70/night, now I see it is $199 a night. Too much! (November 2005)

How does Hotwire work? Is that one of those bidding website where you don't know what hotel you've got till you've paid?

I have stayed in almost all the hotels listed on www.orlandodiscountrooms.com
they have all been clean and nice to stay in....Hampton Inn, Comfort Inn and others....the prices are great and they have great specials. They are close to universal. Last week, I booked a room for 39.00 a night for Memorial day weekend. Most of the rooms are for families with refrigerators and microwaves.
They are very fair and have a good cancellation policy. (just call and cancel 24 hours before- no problems)

We stayed at the Sierra Suites on Universal Blvd. We had a very nice room, large, with two queens and a sofa bed and full kitchen. Fairly new and very clean. We had a very good price, I think in the $60 range in 2003 in off-season.

We found the best way to maximize FOTL was to stay in a cheaper hotel the night we arrive in Orlando. You can check in at the Universal hotels at 9:00 a.m., get your room keys, and go directly to the parks until your room is ready that afternoon. Then on the day you check out your FOTL is good until 4:00 that afternoon. Then we stay at the cheaper hotel that night.

Thanks for posting about the holiday inn on universal boulevard, we were looking for a hotel close to universal in the $50 range. The entertainment is a great rate for this hotel the regular price is $120 for my dates and its a 3 diamond hotel. You never know what your getting with a "budget hotel".
