I like to buy one or two themed items where ever I can find the theme I want (like maybe a centerpiece, a wall sign or a tablecloth, something with a bigger impact), then I buy the rest of the supplies in coordinating solid colors at the Dollar Store.

I have good luck at Walmart even with the character/theme items. Cheaper than the "party" stores

If you're not overly picky about the theme - I've found great stuff for cheap at Big Lots. 50 cents to a dollar for all items. I stopped for my son's birthday on a whim and I will be stopping there first from now on.

Never been to dollar tree until the other day and was STUNNED! How did I not know about this place for parties?!

FYI about Dollar Tree ... I purchased plates, cups, plastic silverware, plastic table cloth, a balloon weight and a decoration there for DD's last party.

The plates were super flimsy ... I mean, really flimsy - as in, don't buy them if you plan on an anything other than serving at the table b/c one plate will not be sturdy enough to transport a piece of pizza, a few veggies and some dip from a counter to a table without collapse. The silverware was also very light weight - don't plan on cutting anything with the knives. The plastic table cloth was practically transparant it was so flimsy - and it reeked of this awful chemical plastic smell.

The cups, the balloon weight and the decoration were all fine.

In the future, I will spend an extra $2 a package and purchase the food service items elsewhere.
