Now that we are close to buying a 40-42" LCD HDTV I know we are going to need one of the HDMI Cables. I've been reading that these are SUPER expensive in the stores like up to $150--I don't want to pay that much and had heard that you can get them much cheaper and the high prices in the stores is just a gimmick and good way for them to make alot of money.

First of all I don't even know what I'm looking for. I did a search on these and came up with a few ALOT less but I don't feel confident that I would be getting the right one. If someone could direct me as to what the cheapest quality cable would be and what kind I need for my particular tv I would really appreciate it. We are looking at either a 42" Sylvania or 40" Dynex if that matters.

I actually found one on amazon for .23cents--yes do a search on cheapest HDMI cables and it is there--but...this seems to hard to believe and would it actaully work with our tv? Tiger Direct has one for around $55.00 but again I don't know if this is the right kind or not. I was OK with spending around $30-$40 but didn't realize I would be looking at $100-$150:eek:

If anyone could direct me or give me suggestions as to where is the best place retail or online I can get one of these reasonably I would love to know Thanks;)

monoprice.com

Qualtity cables, just no brand name. I've bought several, HDMI, optical, coax and have had no problems with them.

I've never had problems with accessories purchased on ebay. Just check out the feedback, quantity and quality.

I've gotten plenty from Ebay as well...no way should you being paying $150 for an HDMI cable.

I would think you should be able to find one for $10bucks or so.

That was going to be my PSA! I feel I should create a sticky about NOT buying overpriced HDMI cables! I bought from Monoprice - even called them and told them exactly about my new TV, etc. and they suggested the cables I needed.

How does a person know which kind of cable to get? I know that I'm going to buy a 50" plasma TV on Friday but I have no idea what kind of cable(s) I'll need. Is there a guide on the website?

I bought some cheap cables on amazon that were like $2-3 AFTER shipping and they work great. I did do some research on types and stuff beforehand - of course I don't remember any of that now. Also what I was hooking up doesn't come in HD (I think it tops out at 480i or something) so top of the line wouldn't have helped

My husband works at an electronics store, and I know they mark stuff like that up a ton! Definitely check out stores online because the cable is probably worth less than $10. Ebay would be a good option, I know my husband had to sign a waiver saying he could lose his job if he was caught buying things with his discount to resell on ebay, but that doesn't stop most people from doing it.

How much stores get away with charging such outrageous prices for HDMI cables. Ugh!

Anyways, an HDMI cable is an HDMI cable whether you pay $1 or $100. They do the same thing. I've ordered lots of cables from Cables to Go (via Amazon) and they've worked fine with my HTDV. Here's an example.

A previous poster mentioned NewEgg---they're great to order from as well. And if you can't order from there, just drop in a WalMart and get the cheapest HDMI cable they have. :thumbsup2

Most of the equipment you already have will have cables that you will unplug from your old tv and plug into the new one. You really shouldn't have to buy anything extra unless you are doing a complete upgrade.

:thumbsup2Thank you so much for your replies and posts!!

I am highly considering the cable from amazon listed here for only 6.99---we went to get a TV tonight ---would this work with a 40" LCD?? Just want to make sure come Christmas morning that we will have the right cable so we can enjoy this as soon as possible. Thanks again everyone---I knew we didn't have to spend that much money but boy do they sell alot of them in the electronics stores for that much and more---It's ridiculous---I was happy to decline the offer to purchase a cable when we got the Tv tonight so thank you for saving me from believing all the hype!!;)

Yes it will. :thumbsup2 No matter the size of the TV, if it's got an HDMI port, any HDMI cable it will work. The same HDMI cable that works for a 22" will work for a 32", a 40" a 55" and so on. :goodvibes

Glad that helped! I hate it when people get fleeced on those cables.

Absolutely positively use monoprice.com They are one of/if not the cheapest HDMI cable sellers that is out there. And yes a HDMI cable will work in any size tv with a HDMI input. The only thing you need to worry about is the length. Just make sure you get a long enough cable.

They are also pretty cheap at just about every store that sells them for Black Friday and they aren't a doorbuster deal either.

We got ours on Amazon, I think we paid $.01 for the cable and $4.99 for shipping. Never had any issues, they work great!

Buying then at the store is a total rip off!

We ordered ours from meritline.com. We ended up getting a 3 pack for less than the price of one in the stores. My dh works with a group of engineers who always know where to look for this stuff.

I recommend monoprice.com as well. We recently purchased two three foot and one six foot HDMI from there. The price was 15.23 that included shipping. They only took a couple days to arrive as well. This is the third time of ordering from them(twice was for other people) and we haven't had any problems. Good luck!:)
