Hi all ,
Busy planning our next trip to Orlando next July after our great trip only returning two weeks ago!
We would love to try and save some money on our flights even if we have to fly to Sanford intsead of MCO from Gatwick or Heathrow
This year we flew with Virgin who we could not fault but if we could save a few quid on each flight that would be a real bonus , so suggestions would be gratefully recieved

if you really want to save money with no frills!! and i mean no frills it has to be TCD.

but they are budget.

Don't bother. see my post further down about the delayed TCD flight. Also i have looked and they are not any cheaper than the major airlines.

Here we go again, I feel the need to balance the opinion of TCD with what is said on the boards.

Stitch's, I know you had a bad delay and that TCD were poor in letting you know what was happening, but read around and you will find that most airlines fail in flight times and customer service, apologies if you have flown with TCD prior to your recent experience, but we have flown TCD 4 times in economy, all four times with no problems at all, staff were excellent and the flight prices could not be beaten anywhere .

Dav88, take on board a balanced view, we fly cheap, and live expensive out there, my opinion I know, but give all airlaines a chance until they let you personally down.

(Tempted to use a flydrive to Sanford departing Manchester 9/9/05, 2 adult 1 kid inc car for £800, CANT SEE VIRGIN BEATING THAT, OR CAN THEY?) :confused3

Good luck,

Steve

I do think the flights issue is down to personal opinion, I prefer Virgin as my holiday begins when I arrive at Gatwick for the twilight check-in.
The flight is faultless, the staff friendly and seat pitch excellent even in economy (I have very long legs and normally can stretch them out)

One way to go cheaper with virgin is to apply for a credit card and join the frequent fliers, every pound you spend gets you a flying club point and 2000 points gets you quite a good discount on a flight (we paid £360 adult, £250 child return in Oct using this)
Also if you spend £15,000 in one year on the card, and we use it for everything then pay it off, you get a free companion flight

Unfortunately this is probably too late for you next year but worth thinking about for the future

I disagree, depending on the time you go they can be miles cheaper than any other airline.

We have used http://www.dialaflight.co.uk/ on 2 occasions.

Our sons flew NorthWest airlines to Florida in 2002 and they were way cheaper than anyone else

In April we had to book a last minute flight to Denver and it cost us £375 each which was less than the flights we previously had booked with United Airlines for a week earlier (they had to be cancelled due to FIL death). Those flights had been booked 9 months before and cost £440 each.

At 31-32" Virgin might be better than most of the charter flights, (but not First Choice I believe), and no better than most other scheduled carriers. American still offers 34" but this will be reduced at the end of the year to bring it in line with its competitors.

Also if you spend £15,000 in one year on the card, and we use it for everything then pay it off, you get a free companion flight

TheFram4 - or anyone else - does this companion offer apply no matter in what section you are flying? So if you were in Premium Economy would be companion ticket be the same?

I have used mostly TCD and found them to be good value. There are some delays sometimes, but there are will many airlines. They are ot as large as Virgin or BA so do not have the same resources, but the delays, if they happen, are usually quiet short and at least they do not have problems with the unions.

It depends on how much importance you put ion the flights. It is only getting you to and from Florida, so for me as long as it is comfortable and the leg room with TCD is quiet decent, then I am not going to pay a lot more for TV sets in the back of seats etc, I would prefer to use the money when I get to Orlando.

It is all a matter of choice. For us travelling in a degree of comfort is very important and we like being able to fly direct to MCO so we'd far rather pay more. But that is our choice. There are no rights and wrongs.

this is something I checked on the phone last week! yes if you book PE you geta PE companion flight....roll on next year!

We've done the knees up round the ears, periscope to see the TV screen.... & now would only go with Virgin or BA. Have even upgraded on the 737s but we now go for 3 weeks & most of the charters don't do upgrades for that long.I've had an online quote from TCD for next year & they are only @ £100 cheaper than both V & BA BUT TCD's price was only for 14 nights & the others are for 21!!
It also depends when you want to go & how late you want to leave it,our cheapest was booked 2 weeks before £199 with a Premium seating upgrade but there were people on the flight that had got a fly drive for £69 !!
