We'll be checking in for our Grand Gathering on Aug 25 (yippee!!!) however, while all of the women and children are flying, my DH, and 2 DBILs insist on driving down from NJ :confused3 . Their original plan was to leave Friday night, drive straight through and meet us at POR when we check in Saturday afternoon. I politely explained that we have dinner reservations that evening at 6:30pm at Downtown Disney, and asked whether or not they would have enough time to rest/recover from their journey to be able to enjoy dinner. I then suggested that they might want to consider leaving Thursday night instead, and getting a cheap hotel just outside of Disney for the night. Apparently I will need to hold their hands on this every step of the way, because they said they would consider it, but have done nothing about finding a hotel. Cheap is the operative word, because although these guys have no problems spending money once on property, they are very anti spending money before they meet the family.:sad2:

Any suggestions/recommendations for them?

Under $40 cheap... . Boys will be boys, even when they're pushing 40. I'm surprised they are even willing to discuss staying at a hotel for 1 night alone, quite honestly! Actually, it doesn't help that DH and his brother (DBIL1) have a real dislike for DBIL2.....if only there was a way to put a webcam in the car so I could watch their trip down! :rotfl2:

Travelodge Suites Eastgate Orange is like 45.00 a night I think and the reviews are not bad either on tripadvisor or here on the dis. That was about the nicest sounding cheapest hotel I found offsite.

I can usually find a good deal at the hotels listed here http://www.downtowndisneyhotels.com from some of the online discount sites.
Plus you will be on property and right next to Downtown Disney.
I don't think you will find anything as cheap as $40. But I am sure you would want to be able to take your shoes off in your room:confused3

These guys sound like perfect candidates for Priceline. :) Check out the Florida - Orlando/WDW forum on this site that gives advice about bidding on Priceline, including results posted by successful bidders in the sub-$40 range:

Be sure to post back here if you give it a try. The important issue to be aware of is when you bid a certain amount and they accept it your credit card is charged right then and it's a done deal. We've used Priceline a couple of times (for Seattle and Vancouver) and have been very happy with the results.

Why not just stay at POR for $104 a night (with the summer code discount) so they don't have to move. Worth it in my opinion! We are staying for two nights pre-package starting on 8/24 for 2 nights at POFQ. I looked at all scenarios and it just wasn't worth it. We won't have a car though.
