Cheap flights from Tampa vs. Orlando to NYC area

Just booked flight from TPA to Newark today on Jetblue. The flights are half the price as leaving from Orlando. Just a head up. Airport is only a little more than an hour away.

Good heads up. For others, don't be surprised if you don't get the same deal. A lot of things factor in to airfare.
Also keep in mind your transportation costs TO TPA will probably be more than transportation to MCO.

That being said, I *LIKE* flying in/out of TPA.

Note that this is not always the case (airfare varies depending on many factors; ie. dates, demand, etc.), and there are also significantly more flight options/airlines available between MCO and the NYC airports..

Also, flying into TPA only works if you rent a car as it is a 73 mile drive between TPA and WDW, which is about 1.5 hours of driving time (+traffic).. This would not be a feasible option for anyone not renting a car..

And just know if you rent a car, the rental company can charge you more to drop off at a location different than where you picked up. Yes, in the past they didn't do this in Florida. But they did it to me last week. There was one price (~$42/day) to pick up and return to the same location and a different price (~$80/day) to return to a different one (about an hour away).

Nice FYI. But after posting it, Im sure those fares got gobbled up. But as others posted, cheapest airfare isnt the only thing to consider.

Lately the prices to MCO from NY have been crazy. JFK to MCO one way was over $600. Booked round trip to TPA for $370. Quite a difference. More than makes up for the drive to Orlando when purchasing 2 seats. Also been keeping an eye on LGA out of NY. Flights have been cheaper than JFK at times and with the renovation it's not so bad anymore.

It can be a little over an hour, but it would be wise to allow 2 hours in case of a traffic problem.
