Chatty Kathy or Silent Sammy - Do You Talk to Strangers in Lines?

I talk to people in line, depending on the person.

Hey, OP, I learned something interesting from your post--that extravert is an alternate spelling of extrovert. I'd never seen this in print before.

I am pretty introverted, but I will certainly chat with people in line if they want to. Usually the conversation is Disney stuff, so there's a shared starting point. Usually I will answer a question I overhear and that will turn into a conversation with some people. I am fine being quiet though too.

I won't start a conversation, but I have talked to people in line. I wound up riding HM with a mom and her daughter once because we started talking in line when she saw I was alone (my mom was actually flying in later that night).

I certainly don't mind chatting with people in line but I'm not the type to start a conversation. I'm more apt to chat with a cast member because at least I know they're friendly and usually up for some guest interaction. That may result in chatting with another guest or it may not, who knows. :)

Welsh.... can’t be anything other than a chatterbox. Huge cultural shock when I moved to London in my teens for Uni and realised that fellow commuters didn’t look at you, let alone make conversation.

I'm getting the feeling that will probably be my case too.

Even if it's just a wave and a "hi! hope you're having a good day!", it's probably more than what they get from most guests. I also try to look on their name badge to see where they're from. Some times that helps start a conversation in a slow moving line.

I’m definitely more on the silent end. A solo trip is kind of a vacation from interacting for me but I’m fairly introverted.

Depends on my mood and what is happening. If something worth remembering happens, talking about it embeds it better into my mind. I try to fight the downside of solo travelling, to create a memory, even when the memory-to-be is with a stranger.

I'm an introvert, but also a teacher so any chance I get to not talk to people I take it. That being said, I won't ignore people if they speak to me. But my past few solo trips I usually had my headphones in listening to podcasts whenever I was in line. I was worried I'd be fielding a lot of questions and chattiness during my trips, but people are usually to engrossed with their families or phones to strike up a conversation.

Chatty Cathy especially on a solo trip (not as much with a group - as I'm usually travelling with people I don't see often). If I'm met with the look of please leave me alone - no harm, no foul. Then you have great experiences - I have talked to people from all over the world and learned a bunch. Also, have helped others to enjoy their trip more - sat with a young couple at fireworks one night that was having a horrible time with the FP system as they didn't understand it. Worked with them to plan the next day better and explained how to get a 4th, etc (which they didn't know they could do). Ended up bumping into them at the restaurant we were at the next night and they had such a better day they bought us a drink as a thank you.

I'm a chatty Kathy (Keith?), so I'll talk to anyone, annoys my wife sometimes. Knowing that sometimes I just want to be left alone, I'm aware of how people are responding, and acting, to me when I'm talking to them and will end a conversation if I feel I'm bugging them.

Depends on what strangers are talking about.

If I hear someone giving them incorrect info like what time a certain show is I'll chime in or if I hear them questioning if they should eat here or go on that ride I'll also chime in.

If they are not talking about anything to do with Disney or just don't seem like they want to interact outside of their party then I keep to my party.

I used to be a very quiet shy person, but as I have gotten older I have gotten more comfortable striking up conversations with strangers. I tend to talk to people in longer lines. I was sitting around for 2 hours waiting to meet Jack & Sally at MNSSHP last week, so there was quite a bit of chatting going on. In a long line for Hagrid's Motorbike at Universal, I would ask people behind me where they were from, etc. As a solo traveler I often eat meals at the bar, and will talk to people there also.

I'm a bit of both- sometimes I just want some quiet, but if I hit it off with someone in line, we can really chat quite a lot. It depends on the subject of course!

As someone whose nickname growing up was Kathy and who got in trouble for talking in school ALL THE TIME, I have always hated the saying "Chatty Kathy"! Especially when they came out with a Garbage Pail Kid called that. Although it was better than my poor sister, Margery, whose Garbage Pail Kid was Large Marge...

Oh no... sorry to all Kathy's and Sammy's. An unintended consequence of my rhyming and alliteration. I've known a few Chatty Sammy's and Silent Kathy's in my day. Regardless of anyone's chattiness or silence, you all are great people! :-)

hahaha, no feelings were hurt or maimed in the making of this thread. :) I am a by-product of my name and will talk to anyone, at anytime! My husband and son are not quite as eloquent and would be fine keeping to themselves the whole trip.

I like to talk. I remember friends and I started chatting with some people while waiting for fireworks at DLR (when we were seated before Disney CMs made us stand up)....next thing we know, after the fireworks, they are following us to BTMRR to ride it in the dark...lol
