Hiya.

I have done a search, but all of the hits I get are about driving through Chattanooga, not actually stopping for the day. We are flying down and driving back to central IL. We are staying overnight in Chattanooga, but have scheduled the time to see some sights and enjoy the town. Any hidden jewels or places you love to stop when you are driving through.

TIA

We spent a night there on the way home the one time we drove to Florida. No advice on sights, but do NOT stay at the Chattanooga Choo Choo hotel. It was so gross we checked out at 11pm and switched to the Holiday Inn Express. I've never been so disgusted by a hotel.

Hahaha, I registered today just so I could respond to this post!
Granted, I can now also take part in other threads ; P

Anyways! I lived in Chattanooga for about 3 years and truly loved it. It is a very outdoorsy city, but since you will have one night and/or day you might not be able to take part in all that.

I recommend a hotel in the Downtown area. Most of the action is there and will be walkable if that interests you. Definitely check out the Walnut Street Bridge (or walking bridge) extending from Downtown to the Northshore area. Both sides have a great selection of restaurants. Downtown will have more commercial choices, Northshore has more locally owned. Once place I will recommend is Milk & Honey (I'll be honest, mostly because I am missing it SO BAD). It has house made gelato in different flavors each day, DELICIOUS!

As far as touring, the aquarium is really nice, especially if you have children. Even without, it is a relaxing way to spend the day. I would avoid Ruby Falls (you will see it advertised), trust me when I say it's just not worth the money. The Incline Railway is also really neat!

Just a few suggestions. Let me know if you want restaurant ideas or anything! : D
