Chase Signature Visa/ Southwest Rapid Rewards Card Renewal increases Fee

As if they weren't already making enough money. The only reason we kept the card was for the reward points, but now all of their flights are no longer worth keeping.

Just want to point out that $229 is for the Priority level card. The "regular" entry level Plus is only going up to $99
  • personal Plus: $69 → $99
  • personal Premier: $99 → $149
  • personal Priority: $149 → $229
  • business Premier: $99 → $149
  • business Performance: $199 → $299

I just rebooked a round trip for DH and I from April/May to May. I thought the former fares were crazy, but OMG it took funds of almost $300 plus almost 100K points to fulfill those dates. We have Choice seats, though they charged ME for my seat $31 next to DH $0 Row 21. We have the same level, different cards and the rep on the phone could not understand it. I figure I will call on another day to get a refund on that. I'm not overly bothered by the increase in the annual cost but the general money grab in every part of their business.

We have limited choices for non-stop from MHT-MCO other than go to BOS and go JetBlue. That adds a bus trip RT which is less than garage parking at MHT (about $100 vs $200). We park in H/A parking at MHT, usually within 3 spaces from the entrance. I'll gladly pay for that convenience since we moved further north in NH and BOS is even further away. MHT is a small airport with less walking and hassle. I guess since we are older, we'll just stick with SWA and deal with their issues.

Funny, they sent me a survey for the call I made the other day. I rated the agent at the top but SWA at the bottom. I was brutal but honest! Charging for a free seat...quadruple cost vs 2024 for points...not letting me use my growing list of "funds", etc.

:rolleyes1

I have always loved my Southwest Rapid Rewards card because we fly moderately often, and I consistently have enough points to cover flights in addition to getting Companion Pass and A-List Preferred. Southwest was also the most convenient airline for us based on availability at our local airport. Now, we have recently moved and Southwest doesn’t service our nearest airport so we have to drive further to fly Southwest. Coupled with this increase and all the other issues noted here, I think it is probably time to change to a different card. Does anyone have a recommendation for something that would have similar benefits with a different airline?
