Can any one help me with a question about disney resort and putting a card down on the room for incidentals. We are staying at Wilderness Lodge in sept and I just had a look at the online check in. I realise I can add a card so we can charge things with our magic bands but does any one know how disney do the transactions? If I put a UK card down and they charge it every time i use my band then it could get expensive with fees etc. But if they do one transaction at the end then its not going to be that bad. I can't find any information on it, do we pay in one go at the end? :confused3

You stay at a Deluxe, so you have a $1500 credit limit (values get $500 and moderates $1000)

you can charge to the room up to that credit limit.

The charges will not be processed until you reach that limit or instruct front desk to process with the transaction.
When you reach that limit Disney will process a transaction for the total amount of your room charge in one go.
so if you have a $1450 incidental room charge, your CC record will show a $1450 transaction, no matter how many small charges tyou've added to your room (you will get a balance sheet from front desk, with the details of all your charges)

Your balance will be reset to 0 and you'll enjoy another $1500 credit limit

you can ask front desk to process the transaction whenever you like, or you can cover part or all of that charge balance by a payment method of your choosing (cash, gift card, or credit)

your final balance will be processed during the night before your check out day.

WL is a deluxe resort so they will allow you $1500 before they charge it to your card (if you want this service). You can request a smaller limit if you want one and also pay any balance off as and when you want to before check out. You can ask for a statement at the front desk to keep tabs on it when ever you want to as well. If you don't pay it off before you leave then they will just charge it to your card. They will hang the statement on your door the morning of departure. We always have the charging facility on our magic bands its just so easy to use, which is off course exactly why they want you to have it, impulse buying is just so easy:rotfl:

What card are you using?

Its always advisable to get a fee free card when travelling abroad. PO & Halifax Clarity both give full interbank rate (today that would be $1.68) and no fees.

You also get £40 cashback thru Quidco for a PO credit card http://www.quidco.com/post-office-credit-cards/?ac

Worst cards are something like my Halifax debit card, every transaction would be £1.50+ 2.75% fee it makes top of the list on Martin Lewis' "cards from hell" http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-travel-money

Last tie I gave Disney my CC details but actually paid off our balance using my pre paid credit card two days before we checked out. This meant no fees at all as far as I recall. I then just used cash for the last 48 hours but was able to use my magic band for everything else.

Thanks of all your help, I can see myself getting carried away with the magic band and charging things to it! But I will have a great time whilst I'm doing it!

Just to add the charge runs overnight on your last night so you can go to the front desk at any time prior to this and settle any amount by another means :thumbsup2

If you want to use a payment method other than the card you've given them, don't leave it too close to checkout time, as they will put the charge through on your cc. I'd do it no later than the evening before you leave to be on the safe side. They put ours through very early on checkout morning, so when I went with my prepaid FX card the charges had to be reversed, and we lost out due to the difference in exchange rates between the charge and the refund. It wasn't a lot, but it did annoy me at the time.

We found in May that I did charge most purchases to the band because it was so convenient and only carried $20 or so for the odd bottle of coke, I hate soda fountain juice. It is wise to check your bill every so often as mistakes can happen. Daughter went paragliding and we realised when checking the bill that it had been charged to my band on check in at Sammy Duval and then she paid cash to a different girl when she finished. Was a bit of a hassle to sort out as we couldn't find the cash receipt so had to go back to Sammy's and in the end she scored as they gave her a shot of water ski-ing instead of refunding my money :)

Same day we had a frozen lemonade at the pool bar there and their machine didn't work and the CM charged it to my room number but at CR. Hope the person in the room got it taken off their bill but if they didn't it was a very nice lemonade!
