Charge for extra adults in room

I'm planning a girl getaway trip in September for myself and my 3 roommates from college. We had all planned on staying in the same room but I just read that there's an upcharge for extra adults in the room. Supposedly $10 per extra adult per night in value rooms, and $15 in moderates. We're trying to do this trip on a tight budget, so these charges will add up quickly. My question is, will we be asked how many adults in the room when we book? Not trying to cheat or anything, just wondering why Disney would care if I have 4 adults instead of a family of four. It may actually turn out to be cost effective for us to get 2 adjoining rooms.

I know that when I book they ask for the number of adults and how many children. You may want to post this over on the resort board. You'd probably get a better response there. I hope you aren't flamed too badly!

They are going to ask for the name of each guest and will want to know if they are an adult or a child. They won't actually ask age since they are adults, but they will ask. It would still be cheaper to get one room at a Value resort if you want to keep the price lower, but if price isn't in question, the extra charge for each additional adult for a Ft Wilderness cabin is $5.00 per person per day and you would have more room to move around.

They will ask for names and how is an adult vs a child. However, if you're ok with sharing the room, then that extra charge per night still has to be way cheaper than a second room.

Another option is to rent points from a DVC member. There is no extra charge per adult in a DVC room. If there are 4 of you going it might be worth it for the extra room to rent a studio, they are larger than value rooms. Check out the rent/trade board.

Thanks everybody. I'll check on cabin prices and renting DVC points. I truly wasn't trying to find a way to cheat, just trying to figure out my options. I still don't really understand what difference it makes to Disney how many adults you put in a room designed to sleep 4, but I'd never lie about how many we had.

disney says there rooms are designed for a family of 4 - 2 adults and 2 children.

that is the only reply I have heard.

Trust me, I don't think you are the only one that thinks this policy is crazy. It's actually part of the reason we ended up renting DVC and then buying. We were doing a trip with my BIL and his then GF. It was going to run us an extra $350 for the room just in extra adult fees. We ended up staying at the VWL instead of WL and saved money while falling in love with the resort.

It's $12 a night PER extra adult (so for the extra 2 it's an extra $24)

Highly recomend renting points. And would discourage you from staying in a Value with 4 adults, those rooms are small. Much better value in a Moderate, even with the extra charges. Really can't make more of an argument, just avoid Value with so many people. And don't forget to check out the difference in price of 2 value vs 1 mod room with extra adult charge. 2 bathrooms for 4 women is very helpful.

I had no idea this was a rule. There are 2 beds, why can't 4 people sleep in them? What happens if you get caught? I wonder if housekeeping will tell on you.
We were going to book a package for 2 adults and bring our moms. If we do not care about room keys for 4 people, and are not buying park passes for 4 people, why do we even need to register the other 2 as guests? We weren't doing this to "cheat" the system, I've never stayed at a hotel that doesn't charge a flat rate/room.

You will be asked how many and what the names of all the guests are. Only registered guests get a room key, can be part of thepackage and can partake of EMH.

Othere than the stuff I stated in my earlier post, if you get caught they will either charge you right then for the cost or more likely evict all from the room.

Just pay the extra $20 at a value and all 4 of you can have a great time.

This extra adult charge was one reason we considered and bought DVC. When our oldest child was considered an adult we saw this adding up very quickly, and number two would be close behind.
