We thought it would be cool to grill outside when we where at HHI last month, the grills where right next to the walkways and as everybody walked by they stopped to see what was cooking , we ended up haveing a few guest, and the next night several guest wher using the grills so we wondered by to see what they were cooking. :rotfl2:

I know there is at least one charcoal grill and picnic table at BCV. It is near the Quiet Pool, but you get to it by the sidewalk that runs next to the canal. It is sort of hard to explain, but it is there.

probaly why we have never seen it

BCV has two grills by the quiet pool. Be sure you have the proper utensils for grilling, the rooms have plastic spatulas, etc., and you will need metal. You will likely have to scoop out and clean the ashes from the previous griller. Also, I found the smallest matchlight bag didn't not get the fire hot enough. buy the next size up for a roaring blaze with sizzle. Our ribeyes and burgers were better than anything from Hurricane Hannas (and much more affordable)!!

This may sound dumb, but what kind of utensils do you need for grilling? (I've never grilled before; I've only watched others grill.) Are you saying that you can't borrow the needed items from housekeeping and we'd have to bring them from home? Do they sell charcoal at the Marketplace? And is it simply a matter of putting the charcoal on the bottom, lighting them, waiting until the charcoal turn white, then grilling the meat until done? And do you have some tips as to the best way to clean the ashes from the previous griller? (I can't ask any resort staff to do that?)

Sorry for all the questions. Thanks in advance.

you would need metal spatula and tonges
One of my first purchases after going to WDW was a utensil that's a spatula on one side and tongue on the other and can be use as both. There usually has been a wire brush around when we've grilled at OKW.

I think most all DVC resorts have charcoal. I know VB had gas for a while, don't know if they still do though it wasn't very useable. I think all the other non DVC timeshares I've been to had gas and proper equipment for grilling. Marriott's tend to have high end gas grills like ducane and broilmaster.

Thanks, I guess we'll have to go and buy the utensil for this trip if we want to grill. Dean, do you recall where you bought that 2-in-1 piece?

Actually I think it was Wal Mart. But I've seen them several places over the years. But if your luck is like mine, you'll look for months and not find one then the week after your trip, you'll see them everywhere.

I have not BBQ'ed at DVC yet. I remember reading that you can sign out BBQ equipment at SSR for no charge. It is at the bike and pool rental place. Do the other DVC resorts have this same setup?

The grills are uncovered, and the ashes from a previous user could be waterlogged from rain and may be a sloppy mess to clean out. I used a large spoon/ladel to clean out a sloppy mess one and paper towels to wipe out the water so I could light my coals. A grocery bag to scoop waste into is a good idea. I lke grilling once /week during our stay. Sometimes I cook two meals at a time. Steaks the first night and burgers/hot dogs the next.
