Character Phone Call from DCL - Not Happening as Scheduled?

Hi all -

I just learned on our cruise meet thread about the phone calls Disney makes to people who have reservations on DCL. I can give more details in a later post, but it was scheduled for tonight and didn't happen. I can't get the website to work. I tried to log in to schedule another call (you only get two per stateroom) and figured I could contact DCL about the one I had scheduled that isn't coming through, but the website won't work at all now. I had to coordinate with my niece via Skype in another city to watch her get the call, and it's not happening. Has this happened to anyone else?

I signed up this morning to have one tonight at 6:30. Hopefully it will work..did you get an email confirmation?

Yes, I had the confirmation email. When I click on the link to go to the site, the site won't load on two computers. I'm upset - this took some effort on my part, and now it doesn't seem like it will happen. I'm on Eastern, but I don't think it'll come at 10:30 PM since I scheduled it for last night originally (got my dates wrong) and it came promptly at 7:30. Annoyed!!!
 
Okay - really annoyed now! I just got a call from them - "We're very sorry your Disney Character Call could not be completed." That's because they never made it! I know this is a free service and by no means a service they have to provide, so don't flame me for being greedy or demanding, please. This is upsetting since it was supposed to be a nice surprise for my niece and isn't happening. :(
 

This is weird. I tried to set up one of these calls over the weekend and instead of letting me set up a time to receive the call, it gave me a toll-free number to use to "retrieve" the call. So, I had to call to get "the call."

It worked, I guess, as I called DD down and put it on speaker and Ariel welcomed us to our cruise (personalized by itinerary and ship name). I just thought it was odd that I actually had to make the call to retrieve the recording.

I'm not sure what happened with your call though. That's very strange.

I'd be very annoyed too if I were you. DCL is offering a free service to help 'pump up' the guests for the cruise, but they fall through on their offer. I'm sorry.:hug:
 
We scheduled our call for instant and it came right through. My daughter was so excited to hear Mickey Mouse call her and is ecstatic she is joining all her favorite characters on the ship.princess:

I am sorry your experience with this service did not happen as planned....I would have been very upset as well.
 
Our son was really happily surprised by his Goofy call :goofy: - and it worked just fine too.
Perhaps it has something to do with attempting to receive the call on multiple computers??? :confused3

We had to make the call as well. It depends on which state you live in.

I emailed them again and explained that it was their fault the call never came. They sent me a link for another free call, so I guess I get three now.

We weren't trying to receive the call on multiple computers. We were supposed to get it at 7:30. At 7:30... 7:45... 8:15... no call. By 7:45, we were both trying on separate computers to access the site. I think the system just failed or something. At 8:30, I was able to get on the site and schedule it. I tried to schedule it for 8:30 that night, but it wouldn't let me choose a "date in the past" (even though it was still that day) because you can't schedule calls after 8 PM (they can be received after them, but after 8 PM, you can't schedule the call for that day, I guess). I think it was a system failure on their end.

Go to the DCL official website and log in using your reservation number. You don't have to be paid in full, but you do have to have made your deposit. Once logged in with your reservation, scroll down and you'll see a Captain Mickey image. Click that, and you'll get to schedule it. Good luck! :)
