Character Meals

I don't even know where to begin. It looks like it'll be my husband, myself and our 4-year old son. So princesses are out. He's mostly watched Disney Jr and likes the classic Disney characters (mostly because of MM Clubhouse). So what is our best option for a character meal? We're looking at staying at the HoJo and we're going early next year...January or February, avoiding the holiday weekends. :confused3

We are going with the Surfs Up breakfast. It is the only one with mickey and also has the other classic (mickey mouse clubhouse) characters.

Its a little farther away than the other breakfasts but I hear the interaction is fab. My kids are big on "doing" vs just sitting so this is a big plus for us.

Our trip is not until December but I am counting down to booking the meal. :)

We have done Surf's Up several times, and it's our favorite. The interaction is really great. The interaction at the table is nice, but each time we go, my kids spend time with the characters after eating. There is an open area where they do surf/dance lessons every so often, and the characters hang out there when they aren't walking around greeting. My girls have spent half an hour or more just playing around with Mickey, Stitch, Donald and Pluto. Minnie and Daisy are also there, but have never spent extra time hanging out. The food is pretty good, too. We never stay on site at DLR, and we have walked from HoJo to PP where Surf's Up is. It's a trek, but it's not awful. We take our time and enjoy wondering through DTD.

Our second favorite is the Plaza Inn. It has a lot of classic characters like Minnie and Hook, but if your DS is only familiar with the Fab 5, then he might not know many of them. But it is closer (since it's inside DL) than Surf's Up.

Surf's Up has the best character interaction and several full costumed characters (like Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, Stitch). Plaza Inn had a bunch of classic characters too, not Mickey, but you get ones like Alice or Peter Pan.

We chose to book Surf's Up since it has the fab 5. My son loves them (also due to MM Playhouse) so I'm excited for him to see them. Everyone seems to love the interaction as well.

Surf's Up is amazing. One of the few places where you can meet both Stitch and Daisy. We got the last seating of the day, which made it more lunch time than breakfast time, which works well for us. (I don't like burning precious morning theme park hours in a restaurant!)

Our favorite part of that meal - since we were in the last seating, our server came by and told us to stick around as long as we'd like to take pictures and interact with the characters. It was such a luxury!

At one point Pluto seemed bored so he went over to the blinds and raised them. Then he sat there, head pressed against the glass, and watched every car go by, just like a real dog. It was hysterical.

I don't know what I'd do without everyone's help. :)

So how early can character meals be booked? We're most likely going the last week of January 2015. Obviously 2015 prices/info isn't even out yet.

I am buying our Surfs Up vouchers for December now from Get Away Today. For that specific meal the vouchers from get away today are a deal. They include tax and tip as well.

You can make the official reservations though 60 days (2 months) in advance. So if you are going January 15th you can book on November 15th. :)
